naiboo Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Since my system (especially CPU + RAM) is from 2009, i´m thinking of an upgrade: I´m planning to get a Intel I5-4670K, a Z87 or Z97 Mainboard and 2x4GB. As far as i´ve researched it will cost me ~350-400€ depends on which MoBo i´ll get. From my exisitng system i´ll use the following equipment - Arctic Freezer 13 Cooler - HD 7850 2GB - SSD 120GB + 500 GB HDD - 450W Corsair PSU - Case, Mouse and Keyboard What do you think about the hardware suggestion? Any other options? After some research i think that this would be a very good cpu for gaming (+OC) Bos is running currently pretty good when flying offline, but starts suttering once im in dogfights online because my CPU is then loaded at 100%. Do you think i´ll should wait if they improve the performance of BoS? my current system is in my sig.
=CFC=Conky Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 That will probably work, but you might consider getting a more powerful PSU. Good hunting.
Matt Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 (edited) If you want to OC, I would suggest the i5-4690k instead. If you don't want to OC, you should consider the Xeon E3-1240. Both are better choices than the i5-4670k, which will however work almost as well. But I wouldn't buy it now (I bought it last year). The PSU is good enough for all these CPUs. Also if you don't want to OC, you can take a cheap motherboard. The difference in quality is very slim nowadays and most of the time not worth the added price (again, unless you want to squeeze the last bit performance out of your system or otherwise need certain features). Jermite Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Instead of getting such a fast CPU, I would swap your 7850 for a 760 or something. CPU's don't generally do much in gaming, I'm still on a i5 2500k that is fantastic. So it will for sure turn your 7850 into a bottleneck as that isn't a very fast GPU.
Dakpilot Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 (edited) +1 Seems that all Flight sims do not like AMD cards much, get a decent Nvidia GTX760 < and wait for next Intel processor update Broadwell? Or for immediate cheap option buy secondhand i5 2500k---3570k + board, Haswell chips not a good enough upgrade for the money, better things are coming soon any late 4core intel at + - 4ghz is enough for now Cheers Dakpilot Edited June 18, 2014 by Dakpilot

79_vRAF_Friendly_flyer Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 (edited) I'm in the same boat, please keep the tips flowing, Gents! I wouldn't mind if it can take CoD too. Edited June 18, 2014 by 79_vRAF_Friendly_flyer
LLv44_Mprhead Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Your original plan is quite alright, maybe just check the new models of haswell. According to devs you will get biggest performance increase changing dual core cpu to one with 4 cores and 7850, while a bit dated, is still a decent card.
Matt Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 A GPU upgrade makes no sense whatsoever, as long as that CPU is a bottleneck. I also can't remember reading that much about problem with AMD cards before the G-2 update, so i think a switch to NVIDIA just for BoS might be a bit premature. You will not be disappointed by getting any i5, but like i wrote, i would buy the 4690k instead of an older model which is maybe 10% cheaper. Of course buying a used CPU could turn out to be the most cost effective solution, but it's always a risk.

Currently i can fly dogfights well but MP with lots oft players kills my performance due to the CPU bottleneck. Buying a used isnt really a Option because they keep their prices pretty good. Money isn't that much of an issue to save 50 bucks...
naiboo Posted June 20, 2014 Author Posted June 20, 2014 (edited) Currently the devs improve the performance in every patch. I'll wait with my upgrade till release. Maybe my rig can handle it in mp (honestly I doubt that) Edited June 20, 2014 by naiboo
