artisan Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 lol,i just bought this sim' last night after watching a few videos on youtube & i am very impressed with it indeed it knocks the spots of the older Maddox games efforts. my aging pc seems to run it fine too unlike IL2 COD which was a joke surely not sure if i dare venture onto the online servers as i am totally hopeless,so far i have only played a few QMB missions & been shot down every time, the explosion effects as i crash into the ground are very good however i recently bought ROF & i am crap at that too but i still enjoy it. any tips gratefully recieved. 1
FlatSpinMan Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Welcome! QMB practice is a good idea to get the hang of the basics before venturing online. 1
Finkeren Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Welcome. Hope you'll have a great time. Multiplayer right now is quite simplistic and mainly done to test stability and scoring system. This Means, that it's more or less a free-for all "airquake" team death match. It's fun enough, but also a harsh environment for a newcomer. Experimenting with QMB is propably a good first step. Many of us here started flying when there was only one flyable plane, no AI, no weaponry and just a handful of missions to choose from (basically all variations of "take off, fly a circuit, land". We learned flying from the bottom up, and I think it'd be good for you to do the same. Learn how the sim feels by taking some solo flights first. You can't really experience all the small nuances in the FM, if you're focusing on getting on your opponents' six o'clock. Also, while I recommend, that you start off flying with HUD icons enabled and with simple engine management, I'll recommend you don't fly with simplified flight model. You need to get used to the way your plane behaves in the air right away. Once you venture online, there is one thing you can do to be sure, you won't be called out for a n00b: Fly the LaGG-3. It's by far the inferior fighter, but also arguably the most interesting, and far more rewarding, when you finally get that kill. 2
artisan Posted June 18, 2014 Author Posted June 18, 2014 thanks for the welcome guys. Finkeren - i took your advice & flew around a while in the LaGG-3,even managed a rough landing, well the plane was the right way up it is a very nice fly & i like its looks too. loving this sim so far 1

MarcoRossolini Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Always like a bit of cannon fodder circling the skies... doesn't matter which team they're on either... More seriously, welcome and don't worry, eventually you (with your shiny no.1 on the leaderboards badge or something) will look at this post and laugh.
