I get what you're saying, but I personally wouldn't benefit much from enhanced AP .50s. In the above 8v8 QMBs I mentioned, I got 3-4 kills per battle. That's all anyone can reasonably expect from 6x.50s (wing mounted).

The P-38 is easier to score 5+ kills in because of its nose-mounted guns. I would actually prefer it had 5 or 6 .50s instead of 4x.50s and the cannon. A short burst of 6 nose-mounted .50s would be devastating, even with .50s being as inconsistent as the DM currently makes them.

That's because AI planes suck at taking evasive action, so you can pour a ton of rounds into them.   In online play you're lucky if you can get .5 (or less) second bursts into someone before they do some wild manuever (probably impossible with a real plane) to get your guns off them.   I actually think the AI flies in a more realistic manner than pilots seem to be able do online.   Nonetheless, I have a log of someone putting 498 .303 AP into a 109 before it went down...FOUR HUNDRED and NINETY-EIGHT rounds!

Unfortunately the devs don't do much unless we make noise.

That seems to be consistent regardless of the game.

The biggest issue at the moment is the HE is so strong it rewards poor shooting where even with excellent shooting the AP can vary so wildly that people will actively avoid flying the aircraft with it.

Couple that with the limited stall characteristics of some aircraft and you have a recipe for extreme frustration.

For example

I bounced a 109G2 in my Yak 1, I had altitude and a wild amount of speed. Landed several hits with my cannon into the wings and fuselage/engine.

I pull into the vertical because its taken significant damage. One would assume that since I absolutely BLEW his doors off in speed that would by a safe maneuver. Not only did it close into firing range, it prop hung and sniped my pilot while leaking every fluid it had.

So ones gotta ask, even though there was significant damage to the aircraft, how did it maintain its level of control?

Well. Simple. AP in game is absolute junk.

The AI plays differently then a player. They won't don't take low probability shots where a human player will. If you goof on a head on and take a 13mm HE you're screwed. The loss of speed is so extreme that unless you've got friends near by you're dead.

One 13mm round.

I've had head ons where I've landed 20 to 30 .50s and done zero damage to my opponent, it's upsetting when you can literally see your ammo bouncing off them.

In 1946 a head on against .50 cal or AP birds was impossibly risky because you'd often lose an engine.

If the devs atleast dealt with the wobble tactic people employ and fixed the FM so you didn't have such insane low speed control that would help immensely also.

This is some of the crap we have to deal with.
