Hey guys I havent payed 1946 for many years but I want to get back into it (I had never modded it before). Somebody on youtube commented that some mods are out there that improve the flight model? I have been searching at SAS1946 but so many options a little confused. obviously any improvements wont being it to il2 stalingrad or A2A levels but nonetheless would like something to improve the flying experience

I haven't seen much. I'd kind-of hoped that the Great Battles / BoS research on the Fw-190 would have made it into a revision by Team Daidalos... but it never happened. The latest TD patch did do a major reworking of high-altitude flight modelling (which makes aircraft like the Ta-152H actually useful and realistic)!

There are mods that expand flight-model functions in order to allow things like supersonic flight.

This might be what you are looking for: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,52489.0.html

Hi,

In general one of most advanced mods is BAT on the SAS 1946 page.

But concerning FM I think there are not so much changes, as far as I know.

Since some years I do some indirect changes of FM by controls and weather:

With the standard settings the FM is for my personel point of view to static and the response to the controls to direct.

In a real plane (I have only limited experience when flying some hours with gliders) the FM is more dynamic and i fluenced by inertia.

What I do since some years:

in the control settings / joystick axis:

For elevator ( pitch) and ailerons (roll) I set the Filter settings to ca. 50% to 70%. The effect is that the controls surfaces are moving slower than you move the joystick.

And I change the values of the axis from default linear to more exponential.

This both corrections adds some inertia to the FM reduces the harsh reactions to small joystick movements.

Weather:

To make the flying a bit more dynamic I set in each mission before flying (w. text editor):

wind: ca. 1 to 4 m/s

gusts: ca. 8 - 12

turbulances: ca. 1 - 3

Best regards

Ah! That would be based on ZloyPetrushkO's mod? He also made a great anti-aircraft gun suppression mod at one point.

I do recall that early versions of Il-2 had half the number of flight model calculations per second - and it became more realistic when they doubled it. I wonder if it'd be possible to double it again?
