Typhoons will be rushed into service late in the year to counter the new Fw-190 and several will be lost due to an undetected flaw in the tail section, which results in separation during dives. This will delay large scale use until the end of 1942. "

 

"The first production Typhoon IA (R7082) with the 2,200 hp Sabre IIA engine was completed by Gloster and flown on May 26, 1941. "
