SR603-Flowbee Posted May 26, 2021 Posted May 26, 2021 (edited) I looked at many period photos and coloured profiles as well as models all of which show both differences and commonalities. I did not base the skin on any particular one but tried to pitch it in the park of common features, same as everyone else. This skin is for the aircraft of W.Nr. 163195 - the same aircraft profiled below within a 5 month period. If anything this supports the point that a photograph taken in a split second of time is but a snaphot in the life of an aircraft and does not define it to the last drop of paint. Gerhard Barkhorn flew to the very end despite physical and mental exhaustion achieving 301 victories and surviving the war. On 6 January 1983, during a winter storm on an autobahn near Cologne, he and his wife Christl were involved in a car accident; his wife died instantly and Barkhorn died in hospital on 8 January 1983. They were buried in Tegernsee, Bavaria. https://mega.nz/file/Z5NUDbJC#kDtYCdQdSJdskwwncqrxAUu1RMNn0bmzD3Wc55YA62s Edited May 26, 2021 by SR603-Flowbee small skin update 12 7 3
BMA_FlyingShark Posted May 26, 2021 Posted May 26, 2021 Nice skin and I'm glad the G-6 still gets some attention now that we have the "Late" version. Have a nice day. 1

Luger1969 Posted May 26, 2021 Posted May 26, 2021 I knew this 1 was coming..just knew it? Das Vergessene As: Der Jagdflieger Gerhard Barkhorn (the forgotten ace) https://www.amazon.com/Das-Vergessene-As-Jagdflieger-Barkhorn/dp/3941437224 1
Luger1969 Posted May 27, 2021 Posted May 27, 2021 (edited) I was actually looking for something that I remember Steinhoff said about Gerd Barkhorn, could not find it but I remember that he rated Barkhorn very highly. I dont know in which book I read it. Found it:!! “He is my choice of all the Second World War fighter pilots,” Macky Steinhoff said of Barkhorn. “Steady, reliable, a good leader, he never made a victory claim that wasn’t confirmed.” “He was the fighter commander of whom every fighter pilot dreams—leader, friend, comrade, father—the best I ever met,” declared Erich Hartmann, “…one of the few commanders whose men thirty, forty, fifty years later, continue to speak of him with respect and affection. Gerd Barkhorn was an unforgettable man.” Even the Blond Knight’s biographers conceded, “There is more of the ancient knight in Gerd Barkhorn than in any other ace.” Something that I found and will read-- https://www.historynet.com/german-knight-russian-front.htm https://www.historynet.com/interview-with-world-war-ii-luftwaffe-eagle-johannes-steinhoff.htm https://migflug.com/jetflights/final-interview-with-erich-hartmann/ https://www.historynet.com/world-war-ii-interview-with-luftwaffe-ace-walter-krupinski.htm Edited May 27, 2021 by Luger1969 2
