Since the first mission of this game I have been enormously annoyed by the constant shouting on the radio of other pilots (AI) and ground control. Luckily I found in this forum the useful suggestion to put a minus sign in front of the name of the "radio" folder, which has put an end to the useless torment. However, after a recent simulator resetting, I (involuntarily) got the voices back, and playing an American career, I was pleasantly surprised by the much calmer tone of the radio messages.
It seems to me that the problem lies only with the Russian and German pilots (perhaps a legacy of the first versions of the game), both very harsh and "would-be-prussian". I would propose to update them with more human tones.

You can turn the radio volume down - look in the key bindings for radio volume.

There are some mods which address this problem too.

This one by Oyster_Kai does a good job of reducing the harshness of the German AI voices.

This one replaces German/Russian AI voices to English.

Thank you so much von_Tom (BTW, may I ask if you're the same von Tom of RB3D?) and itsbillyfrazier, I tried all of your suggestions. In the end, I preferred to put a minus sign in front of German and Russian voice folders.

I'm afraid not - usually it is just Tom but IL2 demands a longer name and my penchant for the LW crates led me to the "von".

But, you will hear my British voice in the game (which I continue to be proud and smug about).  However, the pride is very much dented when all I hear myself say is "I'm on fire" or "I'm wounded".

My impression is they simply used the old tracks from IL2 1947. Same voices, same phrases, same intonation...

And yes, they are irritating :)

That's not even close to being true.

Which in turn is unfortunate because I loved IL 2 '46 radio comms ^^
