It sets a course on the compass next to the driver's seat in the Sherman and the German vehicles. It's also used to adjust the target aspect angle on the GAZ AA truck.

I see the keys to change the  heading in the compass director.  What I do not  know is how to make the tank turn to and follow that course.  What keypress do I need to do after  changing this compass course.  The default key  or what is that called in the key settings ?

The idea is that you can program in the required heading.

 

As you drive and steer (using what ever method you use e.g rudder pedals or left / right keys on KB) the lower compass shows your actual heading so you can see how far off the the planned heading you are. Useful when navigating through towns and forests where you have to jink left and right to find a path.
