cardboard_killer Posted May 18, 2021 Posted May 18, 2021 [80 years ago today] "• Production of the Me-210 begins. Designed as a replacement for the Bf-110, one thousand were ordered before the prototype was even completed. Although testing reveals severe stability, performance, and structural flaws, the Germans are desperate for a new heavy fighter and an astounding 16 prototypes and 94 pre-production examples are built to try and resolve the many problems. Despite the chief test pilot commenting that the Me-210 has "all the least desirable attributes an aeroplane could possess" Messerschmitt will spend a year attempting to get the aircraft to work before production is cancelled in 1942. - Hungary will purchase a license to produce the Me-210Ca with two of every three developed going to the Magyar Királyi Honvéd Légierő and the third to the Luftwaffe.
