Game automatically switches my position without key pressing

I am experiencing this in both Campaign mode and multiplayer.

 

For example, I can be in the gunner position and suddenly I'm switched to the driver's seat. My position settings are on a 4 way hat and I'm not accidentally touching the hat switch.

Plus, when I then attempt to use the hat switch to go back to the gunner position, the hat switch does not seem to work and I have to use the keyboard control.  However, even then, I can be lining up a shot and suddenly switch to another position - this is in both Russian and German tanks.  What gives?

 

I use a warthog thrustmaster for the tank driving and a vkb joystick for turret/positions/firing/ordenance selection.

**SOLVED**

 

So I went to map a new function on the stick and saw that the hat switch kept auto assigning itself - looked faulty.

 

I then used the vkb configuration tool and could see that the hat switch was inputting as if I was pulling it down - I removed the usb connection to the vkb 'blackbox' reinserted, ran up the config tool again and could see that the issue was resolved.
