AI can see me beyond visual range

Is it just me but can the AI see me beyond visual range (~20km) and intercept?

The AI's spotting ability is based on their set skill level.
Even so however, in my experience the ace level AI can only spot and engage targets which are up to 10 kilometers away.

I can't say I have noticed any AI aircraft breaking to engage at 20 kilometers in range, it should be noted however that if an AI flight has been vectored to intercept yours in Career mode they generally are going to succeed in finding you.

An AI aircraft will attack you from across the map if the mission logic tells it to do so.

This is terrible logic and lazy mission programming.  Setting the player's flight as a waypoint to guarantee action, just takes the fun out flying attack aircraft.
