Angry_Kitten Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 Spent a solid 2.4 hours on the game last night and figured something out. The engine noise level stills sucks. And there is several peculiar things with the controls For some reason, when flying the 109 family, once i get about 1.0 distance from a british target plane the controls get wierd. 1. Any time my gun sight gets onto the enemy british plane, the whole plane just starts to bounce and wiggle and i can barely keep control of it. But the moment my gunsight is off of the britisher, the controls go back to the usual, slightly soggy self. 2. Speed in relation to my oponent enemy british plane changes once i get within .8 distance. The usual feeling of speed changes from "50% throttle at level flight" and goes to "100% throttle in 60 degree dive".
Dagwoodyt Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 (edited) My impression is that the game coding tracks where your gunsight is relative to the target fighter. Sometimes it seems as though the fighter AI takes evasive action just before I hear my guns fire. Not realistic, especially when the target fighter is trailing fluids from multiole hits. I doubt such behavior can be altered much. In 1v1's Spitfire vs 109 I see the 109 climb away to altitude for a while and then become defensive upon turning toward France. The AI then descends and starts the high energy evasive maneuvers to get the player to waste ammo and overshoot. Seems more an artifice than a reflection of high level AI programming and makes 1v1 matches pretty boring. Frustrations double if the opponent is a 110, capable of the same high energy evasive moves and having a rear gunner too. YMMV Edited May 16, 2021 by Dagwoodyt
Angry_Kitten Posted May 16, 2021 Author Posted May 16, 2021 well when i am flying behind a britsh bomber in my happy go lucky 109, i should NOT have the controls start acting up when i get on its 6 oclock, or have the gun sight bounce all over the place any time it gets over the british bomber seriously, best way i can describe it is as if my plane experiences heavy turbulence, flutter effects, and gyroscopic effects the moment the british bomber is inside the 109's gunsight ring. but the moment the british bomber is OUT of it, things are as stable as if i was using auto pilot in BOS in a solo flight

firdimigdi Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 Slipstream and buffeting? There's plenty of "dirty" turbulent air behind a twin engine bomber.

firdimigdi Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 No idea, but it's the only thing I can come up with that would explain both points OP makes - flying towards the rear of a plane and getting turbulence and getting a speed increase while getting nearer.

I've not experienced anything resembling wake turbulence in Blitz. Maybe someone else has.
firdimigdi Posted May 23, 2021 Posted May 23, 2021 Tbh in sims I think I've only really noticed it in DCS and there is definetely a change in the sound the air makes in BOX at least in singleplayer when I was trying various approaches to bomber interception but I've not noticed any buffeting.

I don't have DCS, but I do experience some form of buffeting/turbulence in BoX SP. In Blitz it's easy to test by either flying in #2 position or 1v1 flying a single engine fighter behind a multi-engine aircraft. I tried flying a Beau as #2, then flying a Martlet behind an FW200 that I gave an "empty" loadout. I didn't notice any slipstream effects in either scenario. What I did notice was a loss of throttle effectiveness as I closed in on the aircraft ahead. Seems the closer I got the less effective the throttle became in adjusting closure rate. With the Beau I found myself constantly going from 100% to 0% throttle. Behind the FW 200 a 1% change in throttle setting could give falling behind or causing overshoot. In the Martlet I had to drop flaps and adjust trim accordingly. I also set pitch to 100% and then used small throttle increments to get as close as possible behind the FW200. It's easy to see how difficult the situation would be when closing in on a jinking single engine fighter. How efficiently the game engine can interpret your throttle and other inputs in that scenario IDK. Edited May 23, 2021 by Dagwoodyt
Angry_Kitten Posted May 23, 2021 Author Posted May 23, 2021 I have experience sudden changes in plane handling when flying within 50 feet of a b25d in my fw 190 in stalingrad. But this oddity with the sights isnt actually based upon plane size or engine count. it happens with wellingtons and single engine stuff. Its just really funny because it doesnt happen when i fly British Airways and engage Luftwaffe EuroFlot
