IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad

Where is the Forum for Battle of Stalingrad linked?  I have questions I'd like to raise since I've just started enjoying the game again.   Unfortunately,  I got the game via Steam I believe 3 years ago...and I'm not able to successfully create a log in account from the BoS main opening screen...and I'm still getting framerate counters in the upper right corner of the screen- regardless of my steam preferences.   I've got a gut feeling I'd be better off just buying the game again directly from IC company as I simply am not a fan of Steam running in the background.

Thank You Most Kindly- Eddy

if you see two numbers in green color in top right conner then it's from Il2 and to disable it just press backspace key  <-

Unless you've got a 10 year old PC, the performance hit is usually rather negligible. So if that's your reason for not wanting Steam in the background, you can keep your money in your pocket, or even better, spend it on some of the other BoX volumes :)

Regarding not being able to log in, did you create an account at il2sturmovik.com and then try to link it to your Steam account?

Well, Im not sure I understand the question.  I did in fact create the account here at IL2stur....then using that login/password I attempted to log into the game, with an error msg stating wrong email/pass....

with steam running offline in the background, I made an attempt to start the game using the launcher.exe file, towit, I get a log on screen, and the email/pass I setup here doesn't work, creating the same error msg (wrong email/pass)

I will see if I'm missing something with regards to 'linking' w the steam account. (edit: no go)

My system is around 6 years old.  AMD A-10, 28 Gb ram (DDR-133), GTX-1060 (6Gb), WD 2Tb drive.  Runs everything nicely with a mix of medium to high settings (Im not one to push my system to the max, as I prefer to leave some head room)

Thank You-

Im most curious to know if I want to purchase the add-on that brings the Spitfire to my IL-2, do I have to go thru Steam or can I purchase directly from IL-2?

For now, I simply read the reviews and purchased the Bodenplatte addon, making the purchase via steam just to keep things straight and simple.  Its so refreshing to get back to IL-2 series.  I had bought the BoS way back when life started to throw curve balls, forcing me to abandon my system's entertainmant value.  Now that I have more time at home,  I had forgotten the gorgeous palette that the IL-2 canvas gives its users- with all the ballywhoo about DCS, I find in alot of respects that IL-2 brings as must artistry to the table and I don't have to look hard to find some subtle upscales that DCS doesnt quite nail down.  All in All, I cant say enough about IL-2 and hoping I can support their work for years to come.

I'm kinda lost on the lineup of products since its been so long- the IL-2 Great Battles thing and what it brings the customer.  Now we have Tanks....and my mind isn't as sharp as it was 30 years ago, so thankfully they code provisions just for folks like me.  In my golden  years now, where the eye isn't as sharp, the reflex isn't as fast, and the bravery runs side by side with wreckless abandon,  thank you for the replies and to the IL2 community as a whole.

Steam IMO is no better or even worse than Facebook; it spies on your purchasing, your gaming time, monitors your hardware,

and who knows to whom they are selling the collected info.

Maybe not right away, see below, but later on. I stopped buying anything from steam now.

Don't use laucher.exe. Just press "play" in Steam and you should get the option to link your account. Please read this manual, you should be able to find your situation there:

If you still can't get it to work, just post back here with a description of all screens and error messages you see when starting the game, so that we know exactly what's going wrong and can help you accordingly :salute:

Well, if you read those links carefully, they actually don't spy on your hardware as they store your hardware info in a local file and don't upload it to their servers without your permission. Also, Steam complies with the GDPR and don't sell their collected info to anyone. Regarding purchasing, yeah as a game retailer and gaming platform, they obviously need to know whether you've purchased a game or not. In this sense 1C Games "spies" on you just as much, since they too link your account with your purchasing data. Which leaves gaming time, but again they don't sell it to anyone and TBH I couldn't care less. And again, 1C Games also has access to your gaming time since you have to log in to use IL2 (no idea if they store it though, but again I couldn't care less). In conclusion, Steam is nowhere near Facebook, which has access to and collects personal and sensitive data. Let alone "even worse than Facebook".

Besides, the OP has already got the Steam version, so my recommendation is to just continue using it rather than buy IL2 again from the official site.

Well, if your accounts are linked, you can buy it at the official IL2 store and they show up in Steam afterwards. The same goes for everything from the store, it shows up in your Steam game perfectly :)

IIRC, the opposite doesn't work, i.e. if you've bought something on Steam it doesn't show up in IL2 if you bought that from the official site.

Well, Im pretty sure this hickup is the result of purchasing BoS via Steam way back in the Alpha days- and I seem to recall the main menu asking me to create an account and password, which I assumed was for online play.  But its been so long ago and I failed to record my specific logon settings for BoS, and Im not able to recall what the  email addy was that I used to first setup BoS...so at noone's fault but my own, its the dog chasing its own tail scenario.

(I still have the activation code saved on my backup drive...and IL-2sturmovik.com recognizes that my code has already been activated.
