3smokingcommies Posted May 8, 2021 Posted May 8, 2021 I'm in Canada and wanted to say thanks for the sacrifices made by the Russian people that helped bring about VE-day! Thanks. 3 1 2 6
jollyjack Posted May 8, 2021 Posted May 8, 2021 And in Europe we thank the Canadians for saving our ass ...
Zeev Posted May 8, 2021 Posted May 8, 2021 (edited) +1 I am still at shock how Canadian Devs portraid Soviet soldiers in Company of Heroes 2 but I hope they are minority. I am glad we have games like IL2 series and Men of War that can show a true side of the Soviet army from that era. Edited May 8, 2021 by Zeev 2
oc2209 Posted May 8, 2021 Posted May 8, 2021 Of course Russia deserves recognition, but the true unsung hero of the ultimate Allied victory is Italy. Italy's Balkan debacle delayed Barbarossa, which in turn meant the Germans made less progress before the beginning of the rainy season, which in turn prevented them from reaching Moscow before winter set in. Now, of course, I've never believed that in simply reaching Moscow roughly 4-6 weeks earlier than they did, it would magically mean Germany would take and hold Moscow over the winter. It's my theory that Moscow would've just been like Stalingrad, and Germany would be overextended and cut off by the Russian winter counterattack. Italy's second massive failure was in North Africa, and its inability to keep the British tied down without extensive German help. Even if Italy couldn't single-handedly defeat the British, it surely should have helped Germany to do so prior to the American landings. Yet, it didn't. So that's two major theaters of the war that were compromised by Italian involvement. The free world thanks you, Italy. 2 1 2

Venturi Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 The war was won with Russian blood, American steel, and British intelligence. But everyone bled.
Spasticus Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 Too bad the Soviets occupied half of Europe after the war. That was kind of a dick move. 9

Thanks. Those were Soviets - not only Russians, although today's Russia likes to forget about it. 1
Cybermat47 Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 Russia wasn’t the only member of the USSR. Don’t forget that Ukrainians, Belarusians, Georgians, Kazakhs, Turkmen, Armenians, Azerbaijanis, Estonians, Kirghizes, Latvians, Lithuanians, Moldavians, Tajiks, Uzbeks, and Karelo-Finns also made up the Soviet armed forces. 1 1 6
Rafcio Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 Good for you in Canada. You have never experienced the presence of Russian / Soviet soldiers on your territory. If they had ever been there, you would not have been writing icy nonsense. I'm Polish. I know what I am writing. 2 1 17
