[80 years ago today] "• The Republic XP-47B Thunderbolt prototype makes its maiden flight. The XP-47 and XP-47A were cancelled during construction due to flaws. "

"XP-47B. Developed from the Seversky P-35 and the P-43 Lancer, it will be one of the outstanding fighters of the war once the kinks are worked out, with nearly 16,000 built. "

Interesting, thanks for posting.

 

The "C" version was used in Europe as well as the Pacific, so hopefully we'll get one of those earlier models of this plane to fly over the Channel one day as part of an add on or a collector plane.
