dburne Posted May 6, 2021 Posted May 6, 2021 (edited) https://www.roadtovr.com/htc-announce-vive-focus-3-vive-pro-2-report/ Should be interesting. Vive Focus 3 and Vive Pro 2 expected. VIVECON - May 11th. Edited May 6, 2021 by dburne
DD_Arthur Posted May 8, 2021 Posted May 8, 2021 Is there anybody out there aiming to compete with the Quest 2 on price, hardware/software yet?
SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted May 8, 2021 Posted May 8, 2021 If you consider the business, non-data-mining version of the Quest 2 for $700, then it could be the wireless Decagear for $650 that you're looking for. It needs a computer though. If you want real quality, also in the software side of things, it's hard to pass HTC's and Valve offerings though. I doubt that I'd go through the hassle I had with the G2 again. I'm very curious about the Vive 2. I got 2 LHs and 2 Index controllers at the wall waiting for their new overlord.
dburne Posted May 11, 2021 Author Posted May 11, 2021 (edited) Vive Pro 2: https://uploadvr.com/vive-pro-2-index-controllers-cheaper/ As I already have now the Lighthouse 2.0 system and Index controllers, this may be tempting. But really I just got the Index little over a week ago - figures lol. Wonder if Valve is up to something with the Index... Edited May 11, 2021 by dburne

Index I use for made for VR games that utilize controllers, just did a play through of Half Life Alyx with the Index and it was awesome. About to start Boneworks next. And probably another run of Medal of Honor Above and Beyond. Flight sims are Reverb G2 all the way for me currently. Cockpit clarity is just so gorgeous in the G2. Edited May 11, 2021 by dburne

I'm surprised but at the same time I understand. Made-for-VR games are optimized for the center of the HMD market, they use large scale models and proper aliasing to shine on the low resolution screens. Out of curiosity, why aren't you using G2 for Alyx? Simply because of the FOV?

Out of curiosity, why aren't you using G2 for Alyx? Simply because of the FOV? I have done a playthrough of Alyx now in Rift S, Reverb G2, and just finished one with Index. I liked the Index the best with Alyx, due to FOV and the great Knuckles controllers. Kind of fun flicking those baddies off with the middle finger before blowing their head off lol. I tried Index with flight sims, and to me the awesome clarity of the Reverb G2 still reigns for them. Namely for instruments. Edit: I will also add surprisingly the Reverb G2 seems to handle motion smoothing better in flight sim than the Index. I can run it forced to 45 fps in flight sim and it is smooth as can be for me with very little graphical anomalies. I got more artifacts with motion smoothing forced at 45 fps in flight sim with the Index. Edited May 11, 2021 by dburne

So you've disabled SteamVR motion smoothing (in per application)? And enable it in the WMR driver default.vrsettings? I need to try it and see if it's indeed smoother, so far I'm the other way around, disabled in WMR and enabled in SteamVR.

No I am using Steam VR Motion smoothing on and forced to 45 fps. Regarding the new upcoming Vive Pro 2 - I figured after I got my Index something new would come out shortly - and it did... See, the motion smoothing we have is based on accuracy within a second. That is accuracy by refresh rate and accuracy by pixel resolution. While it is not an entirely true exclamation if you're rigid, you could regard it as a post processing technique, especially since IL-2 does not put forward depth information. Hence: The higher the rendered resolution, the better MS works. The higher the temporal resolution (try 144Hz), the better MS works.
