SShrike Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 Has anyone else wondered why the convergence setting in plane setup is always metric? I do think it would be a nice feature to have the unit plane dependent or selectable. When arming up a P-51 or a spitfire, wouldn’t it make sense to have the convergence in yards? Also, it would be great if the adjustable gun sights would automatically be set to the convergence setting when the mission starts.
Dragon1-1 Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 I usually set the convergence to 180m, which is close to 200yd. That said, I like to get close. I agree, it'd be nice to have, but if you just find a (metric) value of convergence that works for you, and find a round value in yards in the same ballpark, it's pretty easy to deal with.
Angry_Kitten Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 lets see.... most of the planes i believe in our game were built on a metric system? Or perhaps because the dudes making the game all seem to be from metric countries? Or perhaps they all got together YEARS ago and decided that it would be the best way to piss you off?
JLean Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 There are only three countries in the world that does not use officially metric system? Guess what those are?

Well IIRC Liberia and Myanmar have made moves towards metrication in recent years. Back to the topic, there exists an option somewhere in the game settings that switches the unit based on the plane used.

But it does not effect the gun convergence setting, only speed and altitude, and only on the HUD speed bar. It will really be confusing if we ever get IJN aircraft as their altimeters are in metric, but their airspeed indicators are in knots. But yeah, the US and British Commonwealth aircraft should have their convergence setting be in Imperial measurements, this is a sim after all, isn't it?

I believe the airspeed indicators on USN fighters were in knots too. Corsair, Hellcat, etc. 1

How do you mean? All dials in US and UK aircraft are imperial so you've already got imperial measurements there. I also recall the gun convergence setting in at least one of the aircraft being in imperial (when I adjusted the gun sight distance, I recall the HUD message giving a distance in yards). I may be mistaken of course.
BlitzPig_EL Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 The convergence setting in the aircraft set up page is in metric, no matter what country, or what system was used on the real aircraft.

Correct, and yes, it would be far more convenient to have it set to yards when flying a British or American plane. In the meantime, I'm glad to see the gyro sights and the British reflector sights are set to 250 yards wingspan at the start of each mission - the most common wartime convergence setting they both used. JG7_X-Man Posted May 6, 2021 Posted May 6, 2021 (edited) Well President Jimmy Carter(the 39th). However, we were too dense for it to stick! Counting in increments of 10, makes since to me! Edited May 6, 2021 by JG7_X-Man
