are we gonna get the improvement of lighting in the game in the near future?

i always admired the very realistic looking lighting in COD

when it first came out it blow my mind in terms of how realistic it looked

and it still looks staggering to my eyes(even with the low textured original COD)

and it still looks way more natural and realistic to me than great battle series(i think clouds and water reflections has also better looking in COD)

i believe that if they do lighting overhaul in the current engine of the game

it will greatly improve looks of the game

i wish dev's are planning to do this in the future

it will upgrade the visual in to new level i believe

look at 1:43

i can even feel the warmth of sunshine through my screen

it looks so real

We've already seen IL-2: Great Battles take steps forward even in just the last year with the implementation of deferred shading. I'm sure we'll see other improvements as time goes on.

I, however, would not hold up Cliffs of Dover as an advancement in lighting. It's not. I'm a fan of the sim but lighting is a step back there with dull washed out colours and less sophisticated shading and environment mapping. It's not specifically a knock against that sim. It's a generation behind. If you want comparison points for more sophisticated lighting systems then the better comparisons would be DCS World and Microsoft Flight Simulator.

If someone really "feels" Blitz that deeply I'm not about to try to talk them out of their perceptions :-)

Indeed.  My band of Pigs tried to get back into Cliffs, because of the North Africa setting, and the plane set.

Didn't pan out.  It's an old game, and it looks it.  A pity, as North Africa/Med really deserves exposure in an up to date sim.

I agree with the OP here. The lighting in CloD/Dover series has a much more natural and realistic look than in IL-2 Great Battles. Though I would rank the latter as second best with lighting.

There was a post by Buzzsaw on Steam which he stated that although the game engine is 10 years old, it's still quite more advanced that the game engine's of other flight sims. Joke II :: IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover Blitz General Discussions (steamcommunity.com)

Unfortunately that area is not in the devs' plans at the moment. They're more likely to do a late war Eastern front or Pacific once Normandy is done. Also, what would a 'Battle of North Africa' add that's not in Desert Wings-Tobruk, content wise? The only things I can think of are the MC.200 and the SM.79, but if in the next installment of the Dover series those planes are added then it adds pretty much nothing.

To be honest, doing the Battle of El-Alamein as a Tank Crew installment seems more likely than doing Tobruk as even if TF covers Malta and El-Alamein in their next installment, there's not going to be drivable tanks, and if there are they won't be as detailed as they are in TC, so you get something that's not in the Dover series, and it wouldn't affect that installment at all.

Better land meshes/textures, by far.

Better FMs.

Better AI (shocking I know but it's the truth).

And something that is hard to quantify, but, Great Battles just feels, well, like a huge upgrade from Cliffs.  This is all about looks and feels, but there it is.

Oh, and more timely and pertinent updates.

+ clouds/weather

You can use clouds but most people's pcs will melt.

You'll also get that ineffable feeling of the original Il2 that CloD never captured.

von Tom

ps  Simpler FMB though.

Well certainly not in the friendly AI department, though. Squad mates are far more capable and intelligent with DW-Tobruk. The other side of things is debatable. I do see the enemy AI use team tactics and support - which rarely seems to happen with GBS, however.

I gotta admit, I like the slightly larger scale of the trucks in CloD.

I'm probably one of the very few that prefers Cliffs of Dover in its original release format.  When the planes became super-shined and waxed, the removal of the white caps on the sea, and the removal of the ice formations on the canopy, my heart shrank.  So when I get the urge to fire up Dover, 7 out 10 times I launch the original vanilla issue.

Did TF add antialiasing to Blitz Edition? The original CloD lacked that and it made the game look just horrendous regardless of any other graphic achievements.

I don’t see anything impressive in those linked videos, it looks like a game from the early 2000s. Which is was. DW looks like it was made in 2006…
