Eisenfaustus Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 Firstly I want to make clear that I‘m very happy with the progress the AI has made since 2018. The behaviour in dogfights now is very immersive and when I do stupid things I get punished. But nevertheless I think there are still opportunities to increase immersion by improving AI. I obviously have not a clue if the following suggestions are at all possible or how much work their implementation would take - for any educated guess I‘m thankful. 1st historical unit tactics IIRC from 1943 onward all major air forces used some variation of the finger four formation for their fighters - with the pair as base. So pairs fighting coordinated would be really cool instead of everyone fighting for himself. Maybe mission makers could already emulate this by creating several two ship flights interwoven with an escort hierarchy instead of one large flight? However in combat AI would probably break formation nevertheless. 2nd communication and command Closely related to the 1st point. An improved communication system (similar to IL2 46) with the possibility to issue differentiate orders to your flight (like on a bomber intercept being able to keep your flight close until you reached attack position and then ordering half your flight to attack the bombers while the other half mixes with the escorts) - and the most difficult part: 3rd morale On individual level AI does sometimes try to disengage when damaged and doesn’t follow always follow you to your airfield anymore - cool. But I’d love to see panic induced mistakes when you press novice and average AI hard enough. On a unit level after 25% losses units could start to disengage. What do you think? 3 1
Wien1938 Posted May 18, 2022 Posted May 18, 2022 4th Stukas I have seen Stuka AI formations conduct proper dive attacks where only the formation leader drops his bomb and the rest just pull out of the dive and CARRY their bomb home. I have just seen a Stuka formation conduct a shallow dive attack (BoS) with the lead Stuka dropping his bomb in time to BLOW out of the sky one of the following Stukas. So - Stuka AI missions could be much better conducted or they could attack from steep dives against artillery positions etc. They don't really fit into the medium bomber mission types. 2
