Dagwoodyt Posted April 28, 2021 Posted April 28, 2021 How do I identify bomb fuse delay time. I don't see any HUD message associated with fuse time setting.

I believe you have to set the fuse delay beforehand when choosing the loadout. There is no mechanism that I know of to change the fuse timing or to see it in the P-47.
BlitzPig_EL Posted April 28, 2021 Posted April 28, 2021 I use 5 seconds for any bombs I drop, regardless of aircraft type. Set it on the same screen where you select your gun convergence, and forget about it.

I guess this key setting "Drop bombs delay toggle LCtl + B" is related to level bombing and NOT a fuse delay time then.

Avimimus Posted April 28, 2021 Posted April 28, 2021 Yes - I think the only fighter which uses the LCtl+B delay is the Fw-190A8... it is only used to control the spacing of bombs in a salvo. So, if one is doing a shallow dive in a Ju-88 one would have a larger spacing between the bombs as they are 'rippled' to ensure the SC250 bombs are spread evenly over a ship, but level bombing in a He-111 one would pick a closer sequence of bombs to ensure SC50 land close enough together etc.

Yes, and one has to have the F-8/G-8 modification enabled to control the timing of the bomb release.

I./JG52_Woutwocampe Posted April 28, 2021 Posted April 28, 2021 A bit offtopic but... I noticed that often, my FAB-100 bombs wont detonate. It never happens with german loadouts. Is it only a reliability issue that is modeled? Is it related to the timer or the fact that I drop them really close to the ground?
BlitzPig_EL Posted April 28, 2021 Posted April 28, 2021 You are dropping too close to the ground, the bombs don't have time to arm.
migmadmarine Posted April 28, 2021 Posted April 28, 2021 You can drop at super low alts with 5 or more second delays set, but with 3 or less you need to be a bit higher to give them time to arm.

Avimimus Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 The really interesting situations are: - U-2VS - Spad XIII The amount of time required to arm is a bit of an issue I find. Faster aircraft mean that the time between losing sight of the target and bomb release is short. However, with these slower aircraft bombing has to happen at lower altitudes as vision gets blocked by one's own aircraft for too long to be accurate otherwise. The low-speed/low-altitude release means that bombs aren't reliable without a 5 second delay. I'm not sure if this is accurate (e.g. for WWI)
