II./JG77_Manu* Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 I think the title speaks for itself. Now that all cockpit components, whose data the HUD is also showing are working, i appeal for a complete removal of the digital HUD (Speed, Altitude, track, number of planes). Only the Chat and the Map (i like the marked front line very much) should be visible, "expert pilots" don't need 21th century digital HUD 10
Matt Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 If you're an expert pilot and if you use expert difficulty settings, the HUD will be invisible. And if you also don't want to see chat messages, you can click on H (you can still display the map by clicking O).
II./JG77_Manu* Posted June 11, 2014 Author Posted June 11, 2014 i am just talking about online gameplay, because i don't fly singleplayer. and on online "expert server" HUD is completly visible
Sokol1 Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 All the cockpit instruments work?? Turn Indicator and Artificial Horizon (il-2, Pe-2) no. Sokol1
AX2 Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 (edited) Many instruments do not work, also in full expert servers at multiplayer today have the HUD available. Today, the HUD is necessary to know how much fuel you have. In the future it should be removed HUD at expert beta server. Edited June 11, 2014 by F4-Wildcat 2
VR-DriftaholiC Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 his post made it seem like they started working in this patch. bummer.
SR-F_Winger Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 They work and i think they are just part of the expert servers for testing purposes. Most likely when dedicated communityservers start appearing the weill be deactivateable.
RydnDirty Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 plus 1 I press H to turn off the HUD but this disables chat msgs so I don't see if people try to chat to me ... Sorry if I seemed rude when you tried to say something to me
AceRevo Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Remove HUD! :D Im training in single missions without joystick and Im relying on my instruments and gauges only and it makes up for a whole different experience.. 2 weeks til my JS arrives! feels like two years :D I love simulations and I am aiming myself for the expert realism when it comes to mp and I really hope they will remove the HUD if its there! (old thread:)) 1
BravoThreeZero Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 The simple fact is that the field of view and resolution of your monitor is more limiting than real life. It takes considerably longer in the game to read gauges than in real life, even with TrackIR. Some gauges are obscured by the default physical head position in the cockpit, such as the compass in the Yak. Basically, what is just a simple glance in real life involves much more effort in the game. Something like Oculus Rift could overcome this due to the much higher FOV, but even the second gen dev kit has a too limited resolution to clearly read gauges without moving your head close. I don't want a Mr. Magoo flying simulator, I want a fun air combat game based on realistic physics and tactics. Removing the HUD completely might add to the experience for the most hardcore of you, but I think the HUD doesn't distract from the immersion one bit, and makes the very steep learning curve a bit more manageable. I realize that there is a "normal" mode, but expert mode is quite a jump up in difficulty for the non-pilots who prefer iconless combat. Allowing the HUD to be disabled (without getting rid of the chat) would be a good middle ground. 1

VR-DriftaholiC Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 (edited) Because being able to look behind you and check your airspeed while turning because the hud is always in the lower left of the screen is realistic.... It should be disabled. I'm referring to the lower left box and the mini map. Of course chat should remain. Edited September 5, 2014 by driftaholic
III/JG11_Simmox Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 the general consensus from the agreed full real settings from IL2FB days was speed bar and compass were acceptable on the Hud(as some instruments on aircraft were inop) assuming the airspeed gauges all work in game then compass only would be acceptable certainly would like to see the options, server side,to force particular icons and HUD options, clearly a must for the full real pilots. another thing i am on the fence about the ability to see enemy positions on the briefing map in flight(O key) im not sure if this is meant to simulate radio traffic automatically giving you updates on enemy units from any friendly in range? if so,id need to know more about the finer points of this features mechanics but i would certainly think this would need to be addressed along with the above? 39bn_pavig Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 (edited) Request for new difficulty mode: Ace Mode No hud elements No planes or other targets on map No yellow text (eg. "You have took off") Must land to end mission with score (ie. no end mission in air at final waypoint) (Optional) Only home airfield and action area on map for fixed point objectives - intermediate waypoints at pilot discretion. (Normal waypoints shown for escort missions etc.) (Optional) Cold engine (Optional) Start on ramp instead of runway Text chat optional for MP I think this would cater for full real pilots. Scoring could be the same as for expert mode, or more if it worked into the developer plans. This would enable true pilot navigation and autonomy, and reliance on full instrument based flight. Personally I would only take on this mode occasionally for a serious challenge, but I think it has a place for those who are experts in combat flight sims and wish to do it all themselves. II./JG77_Manu* Posted October 28, 2014 Author Posted October 28, 2014 (edited) Nice, how the Devs did exactly the opposite from what i have expected, they made "expert" even more casual with the radar map stuff, and your position detector on the map. Now, what is the point of the russian RPK10 unlock? Doesn't make any sense anymore.. Edited October 28, 2014 by Celestiale
