Dolphin Aldis position

Does anyone else struggle with the Aldis position on the Dolphin sat up high on the bar? All the original photos I’m finding have it under and dead centre. Its current position is hard to use in VR.

In FC  do to technology limitation the aldis is positioned in wrong position.  We asked about that fix  in time of  ROF to FC transition but unfortunately they were unable to change it as other quirks for example Se5a line of fire from guns.

However, there is one picture showing Dolphin with the Aldis mounted the way we have it in the game. Of course, more common way of placing the Aldis is shown on your picture, Rummell.

I can move my head but I also have to physically stand up. It’s great for blasting my quads but not friendly for the average simmer. Shame that can’t be fixed as she’s otherwise a decent gunnery platform

No I meant: can you move your default head position, that you're always lined up with the Aldis sight?

I don't seem to remember and I don't have access to my headset right now.

There are photos of Dolphin with upward Aldis.

Ergonomy wise, over the wing is only position in Dolphin that makes sense to me. I was flying it like that in RoF, and nowadays that's how I fly it with Aldis off. I wish I could mount iron sights up there.

You can save any position as default ,can be off center ,straight on aldis , whatever, and when you press center VR view it will be there if you lost your position. You can stand or seat and always be on aldis.

F10 ,save  , move yourself,  or use keys and mouse in 2D and go back to VR

The files for the views are stored under “data/luacripts/snapviews” and in there is also a “defaults” folder containing backups so if you make an mistake and want to revert to the original positions you can copy  them across from there.

The files are editable with notepad if your feeling brave enough to edit your views through there.

Yes, the way it is positioned now is based on one of the prototypes.

I usually fly the dolphin a bit lower down, lined up with the iron sights. This provides the best view by far, looking both above and below the wing easily. If I want to line up a shot with the Aldis, I sit up just a bit, take the shot, then relax back into my seat for the rest of the maneuver. For a snap shot, I have gotten a bit of a feel for where the gun will shoot, so I get it close and take a shot. If I settle in on someone's six and have time to really unload, I can walk the shots in on exactly the spot I want.

I tried lining up my default head position with the Aldis, but I found that I had to duck my head down to see under the wings. I spend more time looking around trying to spot and track targets than I do shooting at them, so I prefer to sit up a bit to shoot than to crouch down to look around. I would vastly prefer the Aldis were moved down to where the iron sights are, however. My current method is awkward at best.

On a separate note, I find the cockpit kinda restrictive in VR. I run into the "edges" of the cockpit, especially the front very often. It can be a bit of a challenge to see some of the instruments or my pilot notes.

Alot of the planes in FC dont have great aldis or chretin sight positions as in ROF.  however the german planes do have that LOVELY hood ornament you can use as a rough aiming spot

Much like the "hood ornament" on the German planes, I often use the oil caps on the Bristol to draw a bead on my target, then walk my fire in. With some practice, I'm pretty quick at getting a good shot, but it's not the same as a proper sight. There are certainly times when I don't have time to correct my fire and I need the first bullets to score the kill shot. That's where having a collimating sight in the right spot makes a difference.

That's how I do it, influenced by yourself. I feel, however, that usung this position reduces my ability to perceive the attitude of the plane, so sometimes I'm actually diving descending faster than I'm aware of. This has caused my death more than once.

At the same time, the choice of planes we have in FC kind of suck if you want to use a tube sight of either style. OR dont have the time to get a camera adjusted so you can snap to the sight view and shoot.

Use the crossed wires of one plane as a sight, use the DR1 with collimator sight, its always perfectly centered.
