sturmkraehe Posted April 24, 2021 Posted April 24, 2021 In IL2 1947 it was possible to lean forward in cockpit. By looking at key mapping I cannot find a similar thing. Only move pilot head forward but my impression is this has another function. Any indications if there is such a lean forward option and where I can find it?
Dauntless Posted April 24, 2021 Posted April 24, 2021 KP. and KP8 to lean to gunsight and KP5 to return to normal, but you have to set up your views for each. 1

6./ZG26_Klaus_Mann Posted April 24, 2021 Posted April 24, 2021 (edited) Keypad. I have set 8 for up, 2 for down, 4 and 6 for left and right, + for forward and - for backward. 5 Centers all Axis, Direction and Position. Looking around on Hatswitch. 7 and 9 are Aileron Trim, 0 and Enter for Rudder Trim, "./Del" are Center all Trim Axis. Flaps are "Up" and "Down" Arrow Keys, "Left Arrow" Key is Elevator Trim Tailheavy, "Right Arrow" Key is Elevator Trim Noseheavy. Edited April 24, 2021 by 6./ZG26_Klaus_Mann 1
Dauntless Posted April 24, 2021 Posted April 24, 2021 I use a joystick so my keypad entries are used for views.?
[APAF]VR_Spartan85 Posted April 24, 2021 Posted April 24, 2021 No to be blunt...if you’re using a hat switch or keypad to look around you are limiting yourself... get either trackir or some type of face/head tracking...some are actually free and use your phone camera to track.. it’ll change your game, free up your hands, and with 6degrees of freedom lean into said gun site physically then you go vr and ? 2

Whenever I fly with someone who uses Tracking Hardware, without fail during a flight, normally during a Dogfight they will go "Expletative, Expletative, Expletative, Expletative, Expletative, Expletative, Expletative, I'm Headbangning looking at my feet, oh S*** I'm hit, F***!!!! I'm dead" "A Sunray penetrated my defenses and disabled my Tracking", "The Screen reflected in my Glasses" and other such Nonsense My Hatswitch has never failed me and since I have been simming since I was 5, it's second Nature to me and it allows me to not feel like an absolute spastic who wears a hat inside. Your mileage may of course vary. 1
sturmkraehe Posted April 24, 2021 Author Posted April 24, 2021 Maybe I made myself misunderstood. I have trackir and I just want to lean forward. So as to better look over my shoulder. Is there a way to do that and what is the name of the respective function (not the key as it may be different from yours). Would be awesome!

Your mileage may of course vary. If you have a mini-stick (as some throttles do), you can also easily map that to view with Il2 GBS and it can operate as smoothly as a mouse view (without needing the extra hand) or also as an absolute axis as well - works fantastic in this sim - no need for head tracking like Track-IR at all really (unless that actual 20% head tilt for 45% in game motion is actually important to you for immersion) - every single motion you can get with Track-IR can be done with mini-stick and hat also integrated (or slider on throttle). That function existed in the original IL2, because TrackIR didn't exist at the time the game was made, and even after it came on the market the cockpit camera system remained very simplistic. This is a long way of way of saying, no, there is no Lean Forward control here in IL2 BOS. That's the point of having something like TrackIR - you lean forward by leaning forward with your body and your head. Edited April 24, 2021 by LukeFF

This means first that those without trackir are left without this functionality ans second I need to have the axial head movement activated which is usually bodging everything else.

In the Settings --> Pilot Head Control --> Pilot Head Movement and set it up as I described. It's convenient and easy to use. You can lean any way you like that way, even stick your head out for taxiing. Edited April 24, 2021 by 6./ZG26_Klaus_Mann 1 1
Redwo1f Posted April 24, 2021 Posted April 24, 2021 ...and those could also be mapped to extra hats or buttons too (rather than keyboard) - depending on your set-ups and what you have available. ?
Shakey60 Posted April 24, 2021 Posted April 24, 2021 Perhaps using the zoom function would work as a substitute. 1

You can only zoom so far in, but that tosses off everything else and kills so much of the view..... So ive learned to like F5 and getting closer then 500m. and carry more then 500 rounds of machine gun ammunition tooo
sturmkraehe Posted April 25, 2021 Author Posted April 25, 2021 Ok, I have now mapped a button to pilot head move forward and one to pilot head move backward. Doesn't work exactly like in old IL2 but I hope this is sufficient for my needs. Thank you all for your precious and helpful advices!

[RBRI]Khaela Posted April 25, 2021 Posted April 25, 2021 Just worth to look at. Do you have your Z axis locked in TrackIR? It might cause some issues but might be what you are looking for. I've also experienced that you sort of have to look over your shoulder in the opposit direction of what you would do normaly, just to get around the head constrains of the cockpit.
sturmkraehe Posted April 25, 2021 Author Posted April 25, 2021 According to my experience I can look over my shoulders quite naturally. I turn my head left and I look over my left shoulder. What is working the opposite way is leaning sideways when looking back. I guess this has something to do with coordinate system transformation. Maybe they have one coordinate system transformation only for rotation while translation is still based on a coordinate system that is that when looking forward.
