Love his "rant" at Nvidia on this supposedly leak regarding a 3080 Ti.

Saw that. Jay doesn't seem a happy bunny.

At a guess, what is actually going on is that NVIDIA has seen the prices people have been willing to pay for high-end graphics cards, and are looking for a way to up their prices without making it look to blatant - the new card (if the rumours are real) is an upgrade of sorts, but probably won't cost them anything like as much more to produce than they will bump up the MSRP. Once it's out, they may stop making the vanilla 3080 entirely...

He has a point regarding why a new card when they can't supply enough of the current models. A couple of weeks ago I read an article on-line concerning the back-up of container ships off the coast of California. It was estimated there were enough containers to fill over a hundred thousand trucks at the ports. Ports are struggling with having enough workers due to covid. So, just maybe, a lot of GPUs are on an extended cruise.

And June finally the RTX 3070ti.

If the rumors are correct, Nvidia is going to replace all their current cards, with new versions that have a crypto limiter. As Jay said, I don't know how effective that will be, because there are a ton of different crypto coins out there and they all use different ways to mine.

The 3080ti was supposed to come out with 20GB of ram, but because of the shortages, it was postponed and  those GPU's were released as 3090s.

Now they know they can charge as much as they want for a graphics card, so a 3080ti with almost half the memory will be released to compete against 6900XT.

A new nonexistent 3080ti to compete against the nonexistent 6900xt.

Supposedly there is now a way to mine using solid state drives. Micro Center said that’s the next thing they limit quantities of.

Happy are the retailer + scalper + supply chain about what people are willing to pay for low, mid and high-end graphic cards not the manufacturer. When RTX 4000 Series appear then the manufacturer for sure remember what people are indeed willing to pay and wants a piece from the cake. Even when the manufacturer increase their price, the retailer + scalper + supply chain again will still remember what people are willing to pay and increase increase the price again to a new level. BTW with their CMP HX cards they can build less GPU for Gamers a shortage again do the rest. Therefore I buy in front of the factory and skip the whole retailer + scalper + supply chain who just increase the prices in this times for fun because people are willing to pay this.

3000$ for the 3090, yes people are willing to pay this. When people are willing to pay this joke prices above retail price why to sell them Hardware for much less???

I think Jay is spot on. Releasing new card

models when they can’t even come close to producing enough current cards for the demand is a joke. Big freaking deal. They put out TI versions of cards we won’t be able to get without extraordinary luck, absurd prices or camping out at a store for who knows how long.

Then we have companies like EVGA which I used to like a lot sets up their bs que which I’ve been on since November. Nothing. Yet EVGA cards have been available at times thru Best Buy and other places. Another joke on the customer.

So sick of this useless hunt.

Yep. I'm on their list, for a 3080FTW3 since december 20th. The que started on September 17th and until today they only honored orders from September 17th through September 21'st.

Five days of orders honored in eight months!

Pathetic.

Just another marketing scheme, to fool the customers, while everything is going to mining farms from the back door.

If the mining limiter works, this new cards may be easier to find, but I'd be impressed if the limiter will last more than a week before it's going to be cracked.

With 3090 or 3060 more chance

A queue list is good. The problem is only how many people are before you on this list and when you are the next??? EVGA deliver to both distributor and customers but both are on this queue list. By throwing a generous tip into the EVGA cash a idea to push your number forward..........or wait...............

You didn't noticed that sales are already before official sale date. You didn't noticed that NVIDIA don't care when their cards are sold before official sale date. Zotac is happy to see his cards in mining farms.

As long NVIDIA want to sell their huge expensive CMP HX cards the mining limiter need to work.

Even when the mining limiter works, NVIDIA for sure produce then a lot more or even only their CMP HX cards as long the mining boom holds. And as long NVIDIA produce more CMP HX cards than Gamer cards you can dream about normal prices.

Incidentally NVIDIA isn't green, green is when you give the local dealer money for a few plants and use them in your garden. Not burning up electrical and plastic scrap and wasting endless senseless energy.

I got my 3090 FTW3 Ultra in Nov through the EVGA Que system. Love the card, no regrets there.

But yeah 3080's are moving slower than a snail's pace.

Dburne, I was pretty sure that you got your card thru their que which in part is why initially I thought EVGA had a great idea that was consistent with their customer focused reputation. But after all these long months seeing their 3080’s available from numerous retailers (Walmart for gosh sakes) and virtually none to those of us who looked to them directly for our new cards has soured me on them big time. It is there that they have totally failed their loyal customers like me who hasn’t owned another builders card in many years.

Now there are hardly any 3080’s being offered anywhere which I think is because the more lucrative 3080 TI is apparently coming soon.

Such a racket the gpu world has become!

3080ti is supposed to go on sale on June 3rd.

The good news though is that Ethereum is crashing pretty bad, since the Chinese put a ban on Crypto, last week.

Ethereum was over 4000USD two weeks ago and dropped below 2000 today.

It lost 23 percent in the last 24hr.

https://www.coinbase.com/price/ethereumq

With a few more weeks like this, and a bit of luck, the hash rate may drop below profitability and all those modern graphics cards, locked up in mining farms could be flooding the market and  restore a bit of sanity in the GPU prices.

Because you're pricing yourself out of the market. Unless you want to switch to miners in the future, who are just pricing the bucks paid now against their suspected rebenue out of the mining-craze.

If the crypto-hype passes on and the customer-stock goes back to it's previous core (mostly gamers and 3d artists), few will be willing to pay those BS prices. I won't.

That's the other side of the market, which those gold-diggers usually want to ignore or are hoping to beat by getting off the game at the right moment in time.

Ethereum is now 1700usd. ..it lost over 25% of it's value today. ?

At this rate we could see 3090s at below 1000 USD on ebay in two three weeks.

Finger crossed.

S!

It is really pathetic how the GPU market has overheated. People try to sell old 1080Ti's at higher prices than they cost new. Good luck, won't be buying. Then these new cards going at over 3 times their MSRP..

You could buy a new gaming rig for the price they ask for 3080/3090 here. The 3090 is soon breaching 3000€!! AMD has not been so inflated, but good luck finding them in numbers.

So stupid I have to postpone computer build because of ridiculous GPU prices. Everything else is more or less in normal range and available..

Spoiler
