The rail cars on the sidings in Novosokolniki are floating as though Pennywise were in town.
It's very Twilight Zone-ish to be strafing the rail yards and be able to see under the cars.

(I see Paris I see France I see Novosokolniki's undercarriage pants) ?

What is the trick to get them grounded?

I have done a little testing with that object; graphics\blocks\vl_wagons.mgm

It is a flawed object in various ways. It is too big and spaced to specifically to actually fit in more than a couple of places over the entire set of maps. I am not sure what the Y axis indexes to, but it is at various heights depending on where it is placed on different maps, and it changes elevation as it is moved around. You cannot manually edit the Y axis. Asking the Devs to fix it will probably not work, because it is obviously designed to go in a specific location. Where I do not know.

I believe the Novosokolniki map was done by a 3rd party, or one of the Devs as a side project, so it still has the static trains on it unlike train sidings on other maps.

I would suggest you just delete it and place your own targets with the other smaller static train objects that do work correctly.

Interesting.  As it turns out those rail cars are the same as the 'vl_wagons' in 'Blocks'.  They are identical in number of cars and arrangement and they fit perfectly over the Novosokolniki cars.  Apparently the terrain height of Velikie Luki and Novosokolniki are different.  They sit fine on the Velikie Luki although there are hardly any places they will actually fit.

Kind of like the useless terrain tools in the ME this Block seems to have been left even though not of much or any use.  But don't get me started on the ME....again...LOL.

I had come to the same conclusion as to deleting the provided cars and replacing them with other train objects.  The 'vl_passc' sits on the ground as well as all the other static train objects in the 'Blocks' menu.  Also some of the rail track is missing.  Reminds me of some of the poor QC (?) done in some of the maps in 1946 where buildings were placed on roads and rails.  In fact there are some tree objects very close to or on the rails on this map.

But I won't complain.  I now know, thanks to your research, that it most likely won't be addressed by the Devs as they already have a lot on their plate.  But your shared knowledge and advice gives me an acceptable work-around.

Thanks sir.:thank_you:

They will fix errors on maps if it really makes a difference.  This one seems like it's more trouble than it's worth. When an object (block) gets deleted, it creates errors when someone tries to run an old mission with the object in it. People will get missing Luascript errors and problems with resaving after an update. If it really is a problem, they will fix the object or remove it from the inventory.

If there is a tree blocking a runway, or on a RR track, by all means do a report. That's how we get the maps improved. They get the axe out every now and then and chop a few pesky trees out of the way. I'm pretty sure I got the one at the end of the Florennes runway chopped down that way. It's just a matter of time and priorities.

So you're saying if I remove those cars and replace them, others joining my mission online may get errors.

OK then, report it I will and until such time if any that it is addressed I will stay away from that area of the map.

Too bad, that's a nice juicy target.

No, that's not what I am saying. If the Devs remove the object from the game, people will get an error message when they try to run an old mission with the old non-existant object in it.  People save old missions that have been updated and reuse them.

You will be fine replacing the train objects. That's what I suggested earlier.

No worries, it's all good. If you are as senior as I am, those moments happen a lot.
