Same here within IRRE squadron but it depends of the player, some of us can open our Reinland summer maps on the editor others crash systematically. Very strange...

Hello,

I hope this is the right place to bring up this subject.

Please be informed since patch 4601 no dogfight Hosting can be done with all the missions in the list. The selections are there but when loading a mission from the listing

an exception occurs (no error displayed) and kicked back out to multiplayer.

Also some of us also confirm there is no access to MSBIN file in the mission editor, effectively cutting off access to the mission files.

Since this was available pre patch I can only imagine this as being a technical glitch.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

It can happen that due to changes in the game, the missions need to be re-saved.

The mission editor has an option for that (not sure where it is though, sorry)

Re-saving a mission means loading the original .mission file, and saving it to a binary version of it: the .msbin

This nNeeds to be done whenever a change in code results in the .msbin files becoming incompatible.

Should not be a problem, as long as you have the .mission file.

If the original .mission file is not available, the only way to fix this is to fall back to a backup of the earlier version of the game, start its mission editor, and load the .msbin in there (can be done, by typing its name.msbin in the file open dialog box). Then save it, it will regenerate/recreate the .mission file, which you can then load into the mission editor of the latest version.

Thankful for finding all the posts about this issue.

Apparently MSBIN files are now made incompatible with 4061, thus if you have not loaded it and saved it prior there will be no mission file.

What is troubling is that now, all the 'alfonso' missions that our squad enjoyed hosting are un loadable kicking one out!

Can we get a new alfonso folder in the dogfight folder? (Is there a download somewhere?)

I wish there was a way to load an older version of this game, if so it is probably beyond me ;)

Not quite true.  If you type *.* in the File Name field and click 'Open' the .msnbin file will appear.  Click it and the mission loads, creating a new .mission file that the update can read.

Stoopy...is there an easier/faster way of re-saving?

I've got a bunch of content (Missions/Campaigns) and it's a real grind to have to re-save one-at-a-time like.

Thanks!

There is no way to speed up the process itself that I know of, but the description for the tool says that once you select a folder it will re-save all missions in that folder and all sub-folders, so if you were to just select the Missions folder or Campaigns folder and hit OK, I'd think it would then chug through everything in one go (and it doesn't hurt to do this to missions you've already saved).  This won't be any faster but at least you could go on a beer run, do some yard work, re-pave the neighbor's driveway, etc. while it chooches.  I haven't tried it myself although I'll probably give it a shot today myself.

Just to be on the safe side you could always make a backup of those entire folders beforehand.  Probably unnecessary but that's always the case anyway - backups are only really needed when you never have 'em.  ;)

i used the Poweshell script from super_truite for a few, but it won't do sub folders. runs in the background ...

Just an FYI...the batch save/update of the Campaigns and Mission Folder went through OK...all items work with the new Rev.

This is how I do it. After the last update I just opened the resave all missions in folder tool and ran it on "missions" before I went to bed. In the morning, I ran "Campaigns" before I went to work. When I got home, viola! they all worked again.

I did make a backup first, but don't need it AFAIK.

I know this info has got to be posted elsewhere around here by several others in other sub-forums but I'll put it here for now where it seems to be needed:

How to use the Re-Save Missions utility in the MIssion Editor to make existing missions compatible with an IL-2 Update:

Every so often, when an IL-2 update adds to or changes the format of the binary mission files, pre-existing missions need to be re-saved to the new format in order to work within IL-2.  Overall this is a good thing for the community and mission designers who are given new features to integrate into their missions, although it can be disconcerting to users who aren't expecting it.  Fortunately, getting the existing (i.e. older) missions to work with an upodated IL-2 program is pretty straightforward, and you'll need to use the Mission Editor as follows:

Navigate to your IL2 install folder and from there, locate the "bin" folder, and within that, locate the "editor" folder.  I.e., the path will be:
{Your Install Path}\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\bin\editor

G81y8TS.jpg

Locate the executable file named "STeditor" and double-click to launch.  The trusty Mission Editor (ME) will load and appear similar to the below:

From the Tools menu, select the option "Resave All Missions in Folder":

mKTzGMh.jpg

Within the dialogue box, navigate (once again) to your IL-2 folder, and then to the "data" folder, and then the "missions" folder:

V9hHRFT.jpg

You can select any single folder at a time to re-save missions.  After clicking on the folder name to highlight it, press OK:

rUUXQMm.jpg

...then let it chooch for however long it takes (it may take a few minutes for each mission in a folder, so be prepared to wait).

Once it's finished, you can re-save missions in other folders, or exit the ME and go fly the missions you've just re-saved, remembering that you may need to come back and repeat the process for other mission folders as needed.

Many many thanks Stoopy for your full explanation on this very useful "how to". It is of great help.

Even re-saving doesn't work for me...  it gives me an error as well. I tried deleting the MSNBIN file to force the editor to recreate it. I tried to open the MSNBIN in the editor as well. No luckeditor.thumb.png.3e2ee9c9860b6724858f05b59ed1f56e.png

Just thought I would post this for the mission resaver utility as some people may find it useful.

Creates a powershell script to batch process the mission files with the resaver utility.

1) Open a powershell window (part of Windows 10, I think you need to download it from Microsoft for earlier versions of Windows)

2) Navigate to your data folder (i.e. C:\IL2\data)

3) run the following command in powershell (replace directories and the output file with your own. Make sure the output file has the .ps1 extension)

PS C:\IL2\data> get-childitem -recurse -filter "*.mission" | foreach-object {("& ""C:\IL2\bin\resaver\MissionResaver.exe"" -d ""C:\IL2\data"" -f """,$_.fullname,"""") -join ""} | out-file -filepath C:\il2ReSave.ps1

4) use notepad (or other text editor) to open the generated file (in this case C:\il2ReSave.ps1). Remove any missions you do not want to process and save the file.

5) from windows explorer right click the C:\il2ReSave.ps1 file and select "Run with powershell"

NOTE: In my case I deleted this record from the C:\il2ReSave.ps1 file at step 4

    & "C:\IL2\bin\resaver\MissionResaver.exe" -d "C:\IL2\data" -f "C:\IL2\data\Missions\_gen.Mission"
Not sure if it was necessary, but it looked like a special case mission file, so did not want to mess with it.

Also if you have a lot of mission files you may want to process 5 or 10 first to get a feel for the amount of time that will be required to process them all.

I get the following error when I try this. but it must be said I have had no success with resave still cant see my created missions in game.

Greetings!

Hmmmm... it's really hard to tell form your description what the issue might be straight away, but the best advice I can give you is this:  Start a new topic by itself in the Mission Editor forum, describing the problem as you did above, but attached your mission file to the message as well.  That way, the actual experts who are much smarter than I am, and who are incredibly welcoming to new mission makers, can help you out.  I'd be happy to take a look to.  And as a new mission creator you're bound to have more questions in the future, and this is a very supportive community, so it's a good time to start posting away with your questions in a separate thread.

Hi Vaudoo,

Sorry for the delay. I looked at your .mission file and noticed that there were a lot of "Name =" lines where the name contained an asterisk (*) and one line where the name was "Niz. Kochugon*". Somehow your file got corrupted with these characters. However, when I removed the characters, the mission still did not save. When I get some time, I'll see if I can find any other issues, unless someone else spots something wrong.

Same for me... The resaver gives an error as well. I am at a loss. It worked fine before the latest update so I am wondering if an older version of the editor could open it?

As far as I know there's no such animal.  When there is an update any modifications to the content get overwritten and there is no way to revert to an earlier version.

You can keep an older version of the game using copy/past of your install directory.

Whatever, the mission file is quite 4 times the previous size. Don’t know what changed on it but it’s huge

It has always be like that. More the mission is complex, more the size of the mission file is bigger.

Do you have the original version, if yes put them here but not in rar. Use zip file using windows. I know that zip file works without problem with mission.

Merci.

Most of files come from 650kb to 4,5 mb. That’s gigantic

Posted

I think you you talk about differents files. msnbin are smaller than .mission

Posted

Maybe a misreading from me. I was sure it was the mission file. I’ll have to check that.

Posted

No, you're understanding is fine.

The mission is in 2 files. The .mission, and the .msnbin.

Those 2 files contain the mission. But the size of the files are different. That's why we use only the msnbin for dedicated server. For dedicated server, we use all the file and we delete the .mission. By default, the .mission is load.

It gives 2 advantages :

1 - The loading of the mission is quicker for clients.

2 - You have less data to upload to all player.

Hey Habu.

This is everything I got. I really appreciate you looking into this. If there is no way to salvage it, I'd be curious to know what can cause this... It would be a shame to have to work a few hours on a new map every single update. I had other mission create by me instead of that version and somne also got corrupted. Mine didn't include any trigger. A lot of spawn and maybe a few icons marker. Still gets an error loading them in.

I tried, and none of the mission can be open. The 4th and fifth files have some files missing.

I can't imagine that all have a problem. May you check the integrity of your hard drive.

One thing which is strange, is that all files have their date on the 4th may.

Those are from someone else than me. As soon as the update dropped, all our versions of these missions became corrupted on 3 different PC. Maybe he tried the resaver before sending them to me on May 4th.

I am convinced it was due to the game update since it stopped working right after.
