StarLightSong Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I always scan the skies around airports on landing to see what I can spot- other jets on their approach etc. Spotting in game is an issue and I thought I'd get some new gear this summer, graphics card etc. I've used Track IR and a triple screen (27inch) 5k by 1200, and a single 2500x1080 29inch, earlier a single 1920 X 1200. Guess there's a tradeoff between the wide view of the surrounding skies and the size of planes as they appear in millimeters on your screen. Thought someone may have already found the sweet spot. Very high res monitors have difficulty reproducing the lower res settings and introduce a fuzzy texture as I've found with my 2500x1080 and at full res, planes at the limit are so tiny that I need to lean in and wear reading glasses. Just sayin. . .
StarLightSong Posted April 20, 2015 Author Posted April 20, 2015 Oculous Rift etc will solve this entirely,,, i think. 1
SharpeXB Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 Oculous Rift etc will solve this entirely,,, i think. It's going to be tough to get the right resolution and frame rate from a PC that will make OR really useful for flight sims. You'll need 4K per eye, perhaps more. And at a very high frame rate. There currently isn't even a video cable fhat can handle twin signals of that bandwidth. And it would certainly require GPUs like 2x GTX Titan X in SLI at least.
VR-DriftaholiC Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 My sweet spot now is 27" 1440p@144hz. I've had 50" 4K@60 24" 1080@144 and 148" 1080p@60 projector and a DK2. DK2 was so good I didn't care the resolution sucked. I think devs will be able to figure out a way to make spotting acceptable for lower resolution and VR will be the way to go even without dual 4k witch is a speculation that kinda makes me think you haven't tried a DK2.
SharpeXB Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 I will be first in line for the OR consumer version for sure. The reviews I read about the DK2 now are that obviously the immersion is spectacular but the resolution isn't really good enough. I agree 1440p is the best optimum for the moment. I'm running that now upscaled on a 4K display and it's awesome. The trouble with full 4K right now is the GPU demand is too high for Ultra graphics and stepping down the resolution is no great loss. 1
6./ZG26_Emil Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 30" 2560x1600 works for me and a single 780GTX handled it without any problems but monitors with this resolution aren't very common.
SYN_Vorlander Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 sweet spot at the moment 1. G-Syn monitor http://rog.asus.com/296652014/news/rog-announces-the-pg278q-swift-27-inch-wqhd-g-sync-gaming-monitor/ 2. Geforce Titan X graphics card best fight sim experience for me atm.
