Startrek66 Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 Hello everyone, I have a suggestion to ask you. Over the course of various duels, I have always found it difficult to quickly take down this plane as it is very robust. I fly with the Bf109 F2 and have to rely on my aim and the 151's 200 shots. Several times I have searched for the shot by attacking from behind, looking for the air intake. however I found it very effective to hit the tail planes, for me the final solution. What tactics do you use?

PatrickAWlson Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 Fire from close in. No tail gunner so you don't have to worry about that. If they have no fighter cover they are defenseless. Take your time, shoot from 5:00 or 7:00, not 6:00. 2

I try 5 or 7, not six. 15 minutes ago, Irishratticus72 said: High side pass on the cockpit, or low side pass on the radiator. I agree with you if the type is 1943.
I./JG52_Woutwocampe Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 (edited) From 5/ 7 oclock low, oil radiator. Also I find the tail section a bit fragile, I never read anything saying it was a weakness for the IL2 before though. Most of the time though, accumulated damage will make the IL2 nosedive and crash. Pilot kills and fires are very rare which is realistic. Edited April 5, 2021 by I./JG52_Woutwocampe
Ram399 Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 (edited) I like to move in to point blank range matching speed and then drift up to the IL-2's high 4 or 8 before kicking the rudder over to get an angle on the cockpit and the other important bits on the front. Edit: also if time is no concern and ammo is at a premium then its the oil radiator all day. Edited April 5, 2021 by Ram399
Startrek66 Posted April 5, 2021 Author Posted April 5, 2021 The Il2 aircraft underwent a constructive change from the pre-war state to the war. This evolution from the metal rear fuselage to the 1942 style with wooden rear fuselage. This information I found on the web. The photo I have attached represents an aircraft with a wooden fuselage. Here the developers have modeled the structure of the aircraft correctly and therefore the tail is a weak point.
RyanR Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 It's pretty hopeless with a single 20mm. In close, on tail does seem to be the way to go. Just be careful with this strategy in the BoK, as tail gunners suddenly pop up.... and point blank range is quite a surprise. I learned that lesson the hard way. -Ryan
