Valid points, though we had people say that the planes in ROF were too expensive back when they were something like $8 for a scout at release, so there will be always be someone.

Why are you using the word almost all for the C47. They buy it, or they'll be fired from the squad. This is the way of the CCG Squadron. ?

IL-2 is a perfect simiulation game ever, but, with all my respect, needs a better sound improvements, firstly saying the engine´s procedure, as start, when give throttle, at the 3° person camera.........only this, bu the rest is perfect in all aspects.

The same thing happened in IL2 '46 when we got the C47 and Stinson "Grasshopper" via mods.  They were nothing but a slow flight to a smoking hole in the ground, even with careful mission making.  The compressed nature of simulation just does not work well for these aircraft.  Human players will seek them out as easy kills, and the AI, either in aircraft or AAA guns, will cut them to pieces.

 

I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade here, really I'm not.  But this has been the experience with transport/liason/observation aircraft in sims.  Then take into consideration that they will not generate sales numbers to offset their development costs, and, well, the writing is on the wall here.

 

It depends on the mission design. In the Finnish Server you need the paratroopers - DD Content !    -  to get new tanks. And all of a sudden you see JU52s in the air again. It´s a pitty that the russian side needs the JU as well for that purpose. One day there might be a C47.

I keep thinking about it, then I remember how bad my flying is these days.  Wouldn't want to drag my team down.

With some of the chaos in the high traffic areas I don't think you'd be dragging it down any more than the rest of us. It's worth checking out for the combined arms experience if nothing else.

Jumped on for a single sortie Saturday night my time.  Lots of action in the North and Center of the map, so I bombed up a P38 and went South... LOL!

Bombed a train station and accompanying "dugouts" and flew back home unmolested.  I forgot how hard it is to navigate without the map icon on a map I am not all that familiar with.  Got to the target in good order, but getting home was much harder, I landed at a base I did not take off from, but I think it was one that was low on aircraft, so maybe it helped?  In any case I blew up some valid targets, so I'll take it.

The Beaufighter X would be a nice supplement for the Mosquito. Especially with torpedoes implemented to the game ! ?

 

 

Mediteranean theater, Norway, Biscaya, Chanel, north Afrika or far east:   Beaufighters could be used everyhere !!!

With the release of the BON, will there be a variant of the Spitfire XIV with the cut down fuselage and bubble canopy?

 

If not on release, would it be considered for future development?

I love this photo.  It looks like the way my squad attacks stuff - total chaos with near misses everywhere. 

 

 

The text taken from FB is:

 

The ANZAC Strike Wing attacks

Bristol Beaufighters Mk X's from No 455 RAAF Squadron and No 489 RNZAF Squadron (together these two Squadrons formed the ANZAC Strike wing) attack German ships with a mix of RP-3 Rockets, 20mm cannons and 303. machine gun fire.

13 aircraft can be seen in the photo, but more would've be present.

A rocket salvo combined strafing run from an off-screen Beaufighter to the left just misses its target, while to the top right a Beaufighter dives in for another run, despite trailing smoke.

The ship under attack is trailing a Barrage balloon that is being bobbled around the sky by the turbulent air stirred up by the attacking ANZACs, this would surely have a dangerous hazard for the low flying Kiwis and Aussies.

The ship on the left appears to have already been badly damaged, billowing smoke and on fire.

The ANZAC Strike wing also flew air-sea rescue missions, escorted convoys and anti-submarine work.

It's a great photo - but my first thought was actually that it had been Photoshopped....! I've looked at it again and again now and still it looks so crazily busy. Assuming it is genuine.

 

It's amazing actually. Seems like the biggest danger would have been colliding with another friendly.

He is in my opinion the closest 3d artist to the vintage box art feel (Roy Cross, Jack Leynwood, Roy Huxley), his art doesn't have that "this was made by 3d software" feel that modern box art has.

I also flew my first multiplayer sorties this weekend after playing il2 a long time single player. My first flight I ended up dive bombing a group of 3 Sherman tanks, one survived and shot me up, and I got shot down limping back to base. Additional flights were all fun and exciting. The element of navigating the terrain adds a lot to it I think

Good to hear you guys are enjoying the experience online , I find the navigation side of things can often come down to identifying decent landmarks... most often certain shaped lakes, roads, large towns etc on the map. Sticking to a given heading is great - until you end up having to mix it up in combat or you are trying to stay low and fast and can't see out far enough.

 

Which is why I consistently get lost on many of the Russian maps because what I see half the time is endless forest lol.
