atyour6 Posted March 31, 2021 Posted March 31, 2021 So i am not super picky about engine sounds of the different aircraft but .. the P51 (on my system anyway) has a whining sound that is overrides the engine noise or at least is just as loud. I dont think it is mimicking the twin supercharger but maybe it is . Is it just me or does it sound really unrealistic?
BlitzPig_EL Posted March 31, 2021 Posted March 31, 2021 The whistle it makes as the angle of attack of the wing increases? That is normal for a Mustang with open gun ports.
I./JG52_Woutwocampe Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 Talk about a coincidence, I was reading about that subject yesterday precisely. Many people still think that its the supercharger or the radiator but thats from the MG ports and the whistling increases intensity with G's.

That part of the sound is accurate: I'm still holding out hope the actual engine sounds will someday be revamped to something more like the real one like the Daimler Benz engines were a while ago though.... Funny story about the mustang whistling, my cats hate that sound, especially the elder one, once I was flying P-51, he jumped on the keyboard and stomped all over it and before I could do anything 8x time compress was activated and I stalled and spinned...and died. 2

Second worst thing that happened in-game because of this cat...here's the top just for shits and giggles, I was playing silent hunter, middle of a large enemy convoy and I had just sunk a southampton class, I was in silent run slowly going deeper and deeper at 2 knots to escape escort. Then the cat jumps and stomps. In a mere second, flank speed was ordered and time compress was activated. A few printscreens were taken too hahaha. So when I took back the control of my u-boat I had one town class and one black swan frigate on my ass. I got depthcharged like it was black May.... Then I reloaded the last save and could never find that convoy again. Good times back to topic now hehehe.

Is he by chance a cat of Germanic extraction? I have a ginger cat, and I swear he hates anything that's not Axis. Gingers....... 1
Rjel Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 Is the whistling sound only on the D model? The gun ports on the B/C are obviously different.

Props Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 The gun port whistle is well known and if you get to see a real P-51 flying at an airshow you can't miss it as it's very distinctive. I use it as a stall indicator when I'm in a dogfight and it's actually pretty useful that way. It's not the only aircraft to make that sound either though it's definitely the loudest in this regard. At least that's what my cat tells me, so it must true.

atyour6 Posted July 20, 2021 Author Posted July 20, 2021 Super late ... but thank you for your replies. Especially the vids !
I./JG52_Woutwocampe Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 Have you guys heard how the Merlin sounds in COD now? I personally like it.
GoldenWulf Posted July 21, 2021 Posted July 21, 2021 Just get in your plane and let me shoot you down

S10JlAbraxis Posted July 21, 2021 Posted July 21, 2021 (edited) I do wish the engine soulds of the P51 D would be revisited. The whistle sound is great and I have no issue with that. Rather the engine itself just sounds strange and bears littel resembelence to the real thing (based on ride in P51 and recordings on Youtube). It almost sounds like an engine running under water with a strange muffled kind of "bubbley" undertone - hard to explain. I think they have done a much better job on many of the other aircraft as regards engine sounds. Edited July 21, 2021 by S10JlAbraxis 1
Avimimus Posted July 21, 2021 Posted July 21, 2021 If anyone manages to convince the devs to make my P-51 stop cooing at me during turns... I'll... I honestly don't know what I'll do. I don't really have time to chase peopel around in online servers. I'll be sad though. I suppose that is the disincentive Don't make me sad!
