By updating to the latest version, do I risk losing the current campaign?

I don't believe you will from past experience. A suggestion would be to make a backup copy of your PWCG folder and if it goes wrong you can always revert.

No - you're fine. 

 

If you ever want to back up your campaigns just zip up the PWCGBoS\User directory.  That contains all of the campaigns and user configs.  Installing PWCG does not erase your campaigns, but the backup is there just in case something happens one day.
