PatrickAWlson Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 We have the P-47, Me-109, FW-190, and Spitfire. Typhoon is coming soon. I would think the P-51 is next but one never knows. After that come the three completely new types: Arado, Mosquito, and Me-410. I think we have seen preliminary external 3d models for each of them, so they are all in the pipeline. Then we have the Ju88c, which might be one of the least anticipated planes in Great Battles history. But I'm sure somebody will love it. Not sure what the degree of difficulty on the Ju88c is but one would think the Ju88A gives them something to work from. Finally we have the map, which might be one of the most highly anticipated maps in Great Battles history. Really looking forward to the map. Almost worth the price of admission on its own. OK, maybe not, but still ... I want the map.

One of the the most perplexing and disappointing decisions ever made by this title. C6 would be fine as an upgrade to the old Ju88, but as a featured aircraft it is out of place and almost completely useless in a Normandy scenario. We could have had a BMW/Jumo 213 powered fast Ju88 or a Ju188, or a Dornier and those aircraft would have been a great addition that built excitement and anticipation and would be actually useful. Instead we get a vintage 1942 less capable rehash of a plane we already have...that will almost never be used online in a Normandy scenario, unless of course you want to fly a suicide mission. 1 1

A niche plane but it will have value. I intend to stand up a a Ju88c ground attack unit on the eastern front and a maritime unit on the Normandy map. I will probably enhance the code to allow configuration of squadrons to specialize in certain targets. That would be useful not only for the Ju88c but other units as well. I could see designating P-47 units for 30% train hunts, a Russian A20 unit for 50% maritime, etc. I suspect it will not be a multiplayer favorite. The 110 already fills the same role and IMHO is pretty much better at everything the Ju88c does once it arrives. The Ju88c's primary attribute, a very large gas tank, was more valuable in real life than in this game. It can be fun for those in search of different career options. On the Normandy map the Ju88c unit would be mostly maritime until the actual invasion, when it reverts to universal ground attack, where it will be slaughtered. 1 1
-=PHX=-SuperEtendard Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 (edited) Wish we got the Ju 88R instead which had BMW engines and afaik operated in the normandy area as well? Edited May 19, 2021 by -=PHX=-SuperEtendard 1
1CGS LukeFF Posted May 19, 2021 1CGS Posted May 19, 2021 It's all fine and well to want some of these later Ju 88s and Do 217s, but you're going to run into the problem of finding adequate resources to model them properly.

Yes... the lack of any surviving examples is a bit of an issue! If you could pick though - Do-217E, Do-217K, or Ju-188? I like the Ju-188 for the brilliant view and defensive firepower (much better than a Pe-2 and even the Tu-2) - although the Do-217 has a bit of an edge in bomb load (particularly internal bomb-load) and the Do-217E has a terrible view but was available earlier. It'd be pretty interesting to have any of them.
