go along with the P-40 variants & the F-4-F Wildcat? I would think the Italian G-50 fighter & GR-20 would be suitable and make for nice possibilities for Pacific scenarios until the real thing comes along?

Yes...a perfect example...probably a tough opponent for a P-40 or Wildcat even back in the day.
