naiboo Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Hello IL-2 Community, i´ve been reading this forum since some months and i´ve started flight simming 2 years ago with War Thunder in Full Real Battles mode. Some months ago i´ve bought IL-2 CloD. I plan to get IL-2 BoS and i´ve some more questions about it (after studying the forums) - As far as i found out, there are two kind of difficulty levels, normal and expert where each has it´s own server, right? - IL-2 CloD on ATAG is pretty challenging, it took me quite some time to start the engine or even take off. I guess the expert server is similar on BoS? Normal should be easier like War Thunder withouth engine managment and stuff? - I´m looking for dogfights, not excessive flight duration till you meet one enemy plane, can IL-2 BoS offer me this? - IL-2 BoS is an open server like ATAG where you can join whenever you want, no fixed missions or events like in War Thunder, right? - Release is planned on September 2014, due to the fact that the game is at 50% i´m not sure if they get it done till that date? - do you know if they have any discounts for buying the game soon? i want to get the standard edition Thank you naiboo
Chuck_Owl Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 (edited) Hello IL-2 Community, i´ve been reading this forum since some months and i´ve started flight simming 2 years ago with War Thunder in Full Real Battles mode. Some months ago i´ve bought IL-2 CloD. I plan to get IL-2 BoS and i´ve some more questions about it (after studying the forums) - As far as i found out, there are two kind of difficulty levels, normal and expert where each has it´s own server, right? Yes, that's right. - IL-2 CloD on ATAG is pretty challenging, it took me quite some time to start the engine or even take off. I guess the expert server is similar on BoS? Very similar indeed. Normal should be easier like War Thunder withouth engine managment and stuff? Normal mode basically has everything automated except throttle. - I´m looking for dogfights, not excessive flight duration till you meet one enemy plane, can IL-2 BoS offer me this? There are dogfight servers, and all current beta servers offer pure close-quarter dogfight. - IL-2 BoS is an open server like ATAG where you can join whenever you want, no fixed missions or events like in War Thunder, right? Correct. - Release is planned on September 2014, due to the fact that the game is at 50% i´m not sure if they get it done till that date? 50 % is a lot, considering that at this point in time most aircraft are complete (FW 190 and He-111 are coming our way pretty soon) and that the engine itself is pretty much done. - do you know if they have any discounts for buying the game soon? i want to get the standard edition Pretty unlikely at this point. naiboo Posted June 6, 2014 Author Posted June 6, 2014 thank you chuck for your quick response. I guess i´ll buy it when the rainy days begin, currently the weather is too pretty to sit inside and play games
Finkeren Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 (edited) The 50% tag can be a bit misleading. The "sim" part of BoS is more or less finished with only minor things still not implemented along with the last 2 aircraft as well as a lot of tweaking and bug-fixing. The team is busy at work constructing the "game" part of BoS. Of that we have only yet seen the QMB, a few simple missions and a rudimentary MP. The campaign, scoring system, mission editor and missions propably make up a good chunk of the last 50%, and while we have seen none of it, there has certainly been a lot of work done on it already. It would be more correct to say, that 50% of the stuff that's in BoS is finished (i.e. in a more or less completed state) than saying "BoS is only 50% finished". Edited June 6, 2014 by Finkeren
naiboo Posted June 6, 2014 Author Posted June 6, 2014 damn i did it! pretty curious now how il-2 bos will kick in! 2
FlatSpinMan Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Excellent willpower there, naiboo! Glad you caved and bought early like the rest of us, though.
=LD=Hethwill Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Welcome naiboo. First of all the flight is highly credible. Even on normal with the automated settings, IIRC the flying aids are off ? Can be wrong. Engine management is not hard at all. Very similar to accelerator and gearbox. Big difference you can't just stop when the temp lights up... ihihihih. All in all a solid sim. Few planes to get lost into but good detail to spend countless hours to learn each one ( or the one we love the most ).
naiboo Posted June 6, 2014 Author Posted June 6, 2014 (edited) Thank you for the warm welcome. I ve tested some dogfight action so far in normal difficulty. Pretty cool feeling for flying. Currently trying to find a good setup for my Joystick (x52). I weht to the MP Server aswell. But there my CPU bottle necks (core2duo 3166 MHz @ 4300 MHz). ive no Problem in Duels but once More planes are at the screen my fpS go down to 30 fps. Edited June 6, 2014 by naiboo
naiboo Posted June 6, 2014 Author Posted June 6, 2014 (edited) Indeed, the minimum recommended is for a Quad Core CPU.http://il2sturmovik.com/about/ Minimal System Requirements: To understand if you PC can handle IL-2: BOS we recommend using Rise of Flight as your benchmark - the recommended system requirements for Rise of Flight are found below. Rise of Flight is available for free and you can download and play by going to the following link - http://riseofflight.com/tryrof/en. We recommend these system requirements as the minimum specs for IL-2: BOS. Windows® XP (SP2) / Vista (SP1) / Windows® 7 (SP1) / Windows® 8 CPU: Intel® Core™ 2 Quad 2.6 GHz+ or Intel® Core™ i5/i7 2.6 GHz+ GPU: 1024 Mb+, GeForce GTX 260+/Radeon HD5850+ RAM: 4 Gb+ Sound: DirectX 9.0c/11 compatible Free Hard Drive space: 10 Gb+ Internet Connection Required for Registration, Career Mode, Multiplayer and Statistics Tracking. 256 Kb/s for single-player and 1 Mb/s for multiplayer Ive downloaded rof to test it, played some dogfights and everything was smooth. My c2d did well till bos. I'll upgrade soon Edited June 6, 2014 by naiboo

I'll upgrade soon Might want to wait to see if BoS gets further optimisation. I'm sure things will improve. No way, man. Use the excuse, really any excuse, to get into a new rig 1
Creepermoss Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 No way, man. Use the excuse, really any excuse, to get into a new rig This. I bought a long overdue i5/mobo combo, and it just runs so well.
MarcoRossolini Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Despite RoF being developed on the same engine, the graphics in BoS are definitely better in my opinion, I'd certainly suggest upgrading ASAP...
naiboo Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 Despite RoF being developed on the same engine, the graphics in BoS are definitely better in my opinion, I'd certainly suggest upgrading ASAP... I am considering to upgrade my CPU + mobo + RAM. Thinking of a 4670k, mono with z87 chip set and 2x4gb RAM. I already have ssd and radeon 7850. The only thing that worries me is the fact that players with better cpus, also have fps drops to 30 fps. I hope the devs will be able to handle this issue. I want smooth 60 fps.... My current setting can be found in my Sig.
AbortedMan Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 New Intel CPUs with their snazzy new super thermal conducting coating are are coming out in like a month, which also means the current gen is getting a DRASTIC price drop, something to the tune of $72, according to this site. There's a couple snazzy new mobos that were released last week highlighted on that page as well. I would wait until the new gen stuff comes out to get the best deal...shouldn't be long now. A little off topic...=LD=Hethwill_Khan, if that's you in your profile pic, you look like Prince Oberyn Martell from GoT:

Finkeren Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Before or after season 4:P? Well, in his profile pic he appears to be getting smashed, so I guess after ep. 8? 1
