My Reverb G2 cable recently broke, and it is on backorder. To tide me over, I bought a Quest2 $300, an aftermarket link cable $15, and a headstrap pad $15. I am thoroughly impressed. It worked well right out of the box but I had issues getting it to 90hz in steamvr after software updates. Someone recommended switching to Open composite and using Oculus tray tool. The visuals are 95% of a G2 in my opinion. The quest 2 is not as bright but that is not necessarily bad. It works extremely well. I would say the cockpit looks just as good, just slightly worse in identifying aircraft types, very slight. I have a B550 chipset so I have had many issues with my G2 so the Quest 2 working so well over the same USB ports was very nice. It was also great to see that it came with a 'glasses spacer'. Anyways I can thoroughly recommend the Quest 2 for someone looking to get into VR and is on the fence on which headset to buy. VR headsets also tend to retain their value somewhat while they are still relevant so you may not be out much if you decide to sell it in the not too far future.

Nice post! I had both. Had to give my G2 away to a friend because my eyes are too narrow :( (minimum IPD of 60 with the G2 versus 58 with the Q2 makes all the difference). But I certainly still thought that the G2 had a clear edge in image quality. More like 80% to me, rather than 95%. And the sound of the G2 is infinitely better. But regardless, the Q2 is pretty impressive for the price!

A lot probably depends on what Steam VR resolution one runs with the Reverb G2.

I agree with this post, I owned both and the Q2 is a great value. I also have 58 IPD and couldnt get a clear image with G2, much better with Quest2

Yes, I meant with both tuned to a similar experience with frame rate. I am still feeling the quest 2 out with tweaking, but I run my reverb at 106% in Steamvr

Agreed! Quest 2 is incredible good value.
Running with OpenComposite so the data isn't double handled.

Yeah I got open composite working and my rate issue was due to using the Oculus beta. When I went back to normal, back to 90hz. A squadmate also is running at 90hz

I am a little tempted to grab one just to check it out myself.

Nahhh I can pass for now lol.

But I am seeing some pretty darn good reports on it across the various forums. And the more flight simmers that get into VR whatever the method the better for all of us VR enthusiasts. Growing VR userbase is what it is all about.

Hi Saker,

What settings do you use in OTT and open composite?

Do you use the quest link settings in the OTT?

Or do you just use the oculus home graphic preferences settings?

Thanks

I do use the OTT link settings, all maxed. Distortion default.

Open composite is a 1 time run I believe.

I have the Oculus software at 1.0/90hz/ Ott 1.2 SS, ASW off, cpu high, gpu scaling off.

Oh, the beta?
You mean the Public Test channel?

Yes, sorry I was tired. The public test channel forced my headset to 72hz in game although I had 90hz selected. Turning public test channel off gave me 90hz

I don't think anything can beat the Q2 performance/price ratio these days, even if you add cable + comfort headstrap to the price.
