I was trying to get a graphics card for a few months now. I'm on notify lists on a bunch of online retailers and nobody even bother to send me a notification. All the stock goes under the table to miners. I'm on the EVGA list, for a 3080 FTW3 Ultra, since early December. They honored about four days worth of the September preorders until now.

  I almost got a 6900XT last week, from Canada computers, only to have the transaction canceled by the store, few hours later, because the card "was not supposed to be available online." 

  They didn't have a single graphics card available for over a month. Everything goes under the table, to the miners.

Exactly the same CPU and same GPU used by my 13-yr old son to play exactly the same game. His favourite game. I didn´t measure fps but I will.

He wants to play with me to that game and I want him to play IL-2.

I'm getting very frustrated.

I have everything sitting here except for the damn GPU.

 

I may have to cave and build the system with my existing 1080, and just wait it out some more.

I'd hate to wait 9 months, go to build the system and find out my Mobo is bad and needs RMA or some such.

Just build with what you have. It will make the wait for the GPU more bearable. 

 You'll get two bumps up in speed. One now and one when you drop in the new GPU. 

With some of the crypto going mainstream, I expect the prices to go up and the mining to pickup even more steam.

 You may have to wait for a long time.

I asked him to run unlimited fps at 4K and he got 518 fps avg!!  More than Thanos!

Has he tried turning on ray tracing? I've heard that ray tracing in Minecraft turns it from a lightweight game GPU-wise to a resource hog.

It’s a hard pill to swallow - I wanted that all at once, “holy crap this thing is fast” thing to happen.

 

I think you may be right though.

Waiting is putting me further and further behind in some content creation work as well.

Jus' like buying a new car. Keep the ole one running as long as possible. 

Sometimes regretting the deals from the past.

If i kept my old VW T1 transporter running it would be worth more than a new one.

 

PS I remember recording music professionally with a, wow 512 KB memory, Atari computer, and video title making with a far more expensive color screen Amiga.
