Captain_Bone Posted February 28, 2021 Posted February 28, 2021 A question to the Virpil users out there: I´m trying to map the buttons B1-B6 on a VPC MongoosT-50CM2 Throttle combined with the shifter modes (1-5). This works all fine in mode 1 and 2. When it comes to mode 3 from button 3 IL2 describes all upcoming buttons as "POV- buttons". For example: mode 4, button 2 - IL2 says "POV_270". So far so good, but these POV- mapped buttons don´t work ingame. I also don´t see any POV- function for these in the Virpil software. Can anybody help me to get these buttons working?
Nadelbaum Posted February 28, 2021 Posted February 28, 2021 (edited) I have a working T-50CM2 and all 5 modes (buttons) mapped to different functions in Il-2. Can you share (screenshots?) of your VPC configuration tool? Have you selected 5-way Mode Modifier as the GRIP (in Profile)? Also make sure you use "Split to virtual device by 32 buttons". Captain_Bone Posted February 28, 2021 Author Posted February 28, 2021 (edited) Great this gives me hope! Here´s a screenshot of my profile. 5-way Mode Modifier is selected. Where do I "Split to virtual device by 32 buttons"? It only says "No twist grip (locked twist)", where I should be able to select "Split to virtual device by 32 buttons". What do I have to change? Nadelbaum Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 (edited) Hmm, I have a slightly older version of the Configuration Tool (VPC-JOY-200204). Here's how it looks: Spoiler I found this: So it looks like they have removed that option, who knows why, from the latest software versions. Maybe Virpil tech support can shed some light on why this was done and what they propose as a solution for games that don't support more than 32 buttons per device? At least you should be able to find the older version from their web site, but I don't know how it will work with a newer version of the firmware or if there's something in the new firmware that you absolutely want to have in the throttle (I haven't needed anything obviously...). I hope this gets you forward. Edited March 1, 2021 by Nadelbaum Added reference to discussion about the removal of the split device option in the latest software versions...
Captain_Bone Posted March 1, 2021 Author Posted March 1, 2021 I´ve dropped Virpil an e-mail. Let´s see what they reply. 1
Nadelbaum Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 Please do share whatever the conclusion will be in the end.
Captain_Bone Posted March 1, 2021 Author Posted March 1, 2021 This is what I found in the Virpil forum: https://forum.virpil.com/index.php?/topic/1671-warning-split-to-virtual-device-by-32-buttons-function-will-be-removed/
Nadelbaum Posted March 2, 2021 Posted March 2, 2021 Ok, that confirms that I won't be switching to a newer firmware ? I've never been fond of the 3rd party mapping software (bad experience in the past with plenty of instability) and the current Virpil's own setup works fine. I'm really not missing anything in the simulators I use today so why bother banging my head by switching to a new mapping mechanism, which according to the thread, still has its problems. Did you by the way see the comment that you can use multiple versions of the configurator/firmware per device? That means that you could stay on the old firmware in your throttle while keeping the rest of your Virpil stuff on the latest firmware.
Captain_Bone Posted March 2, 2021 Author Posted March 2, 2021 Yes, I did see that. But here´s the hook: Everytime I want to create a new profile or save my changes for my device, the software says "update to newer firmware" and doesn´t proceed. Here´s the good news: After reading some more in that thread in Virpil´s forum I found out, that there´s a checkbox now, that let´s you enable "keymapping". You have nothing else to do, than enable that option. Now IL2 writes (just for example) the key "L" or "<" instead of "button 89". I tried it out in IL2 and it works! Thanks, for your support so far! I consider this case as solved and closed! ? 1
