Trek64Trek64 Posted February 27, 2021 Posted February 27, 2021 Total VR noob here. I can't seem to get my new Quest 2 to work with IL2 Great Battles. I have gotten to work with MSFS 2020, but I think it is easier due to "Switch to VR mode" within the game itself. IL2 doesn't have anything like that kind of button inside the game. I do have enable VR mode checked when first starting IL2 from the desktop but that doesn't make it connect. I have the digital version of IL2GB not Steam. I do VR with MSFS 2020 using the Link cable. The closest I get to VR with IL2 is to see my computer screen inside the headset. What do I have to do to make it go into VR? Is there some secret button?

Make sure in Oculus settings you have " allow unknown sources" checked.
354thFG_Drewm3i-VR Posted February 28, 2021 Posted February 28, 2021 Sounds like your runtime isn't working. Open composite or steamvr? We recommend the latter.
Trek64Trek64 Posted February 28, 2021 Author Posted February 28, 2021 (edited) Steam is open. I have "allow unknown sources" checked. Oculus Link is working. Where is the button that will enable me to jump into the 3D/VR cockpit? All I see in my headset is a gigantic screen version of the same thing on my computer screen. I'm not actually IN the cockpit VR style. What am I not doing to make this work? Just to be clear, I have the digital version of IL2 GB not the Steam version. Edited February 28, 2021 by Trek64Trek64

If you have VR checked in the graphics settings, when launching IL-2 it should go directly into VR in your headset. There is no switch to VR within the game itself.

That seems to be necessary even if you don't have the Steam version of IL2, which I do not.

If you want better performance, we highly recommend using open composite instead of steamvr: https://znix.xyz/OpenComposite/runtimeswitcher.php
whitav8 Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 If you want to go wireless on the Q2, purchase Virtual Desktop on the Quest2 Store and connect via 5Ghz WiFi router channel to your PC (which will run the Virtual Desktop streamer app (https://www.vrdesktop.net/)). It will then connect to IL-2 via SteamVR. Ah, wireless freedom! 1
