Oculus rift s issue all of a sudden please help!

Hello all,

I hope someone has had this issue and can let me know a solution.  Thanks in advance for reading! I got a brand new rig and the oculus rift s this past October and everything has ran smoothly with no issues.  About 2 weeks ago I was flying and all of a sudden mid flight a bug keeps happening where it’s almost like there is an invisible wall on my left and right face and it’s tethered. Kind of like when you move your head too far and would hit the side of the cockpit and the whole plane moves. That’s what happens. I can look around 360 and everything fine but if I slide my head just slightly to right or left the whole plane moves and it’s like I’m locked. It’s so hard to explain and hope that makes sense. The only way to fix it is exit out of the game and restart my pc. It’s so weird because it just happens randomly and I can be on a 45 min flight and good to go and it just happens or it could be my second flight and when I spawn it happens. If anyone can help I would appreciate it !!!! Thanks in advance  ?

Sounds like a camera tracking issue.

Anything change with the lighting in your room?
Might also wipe the tracking camera lenses clean.

I haven’t had any changing of lighting and have wiped everything clean every session. It’s weird because like I said I can look all around fine but if I move/swivel  my head slightly right or left the whole plane moves like I’m hitting an invisible wall

Ok thanks guys I’ll try when I get home! My lighting hasn’t changed and I fly at night ? Any tips on lighting ?

So weird because it’s been flawless for 5 months and never had it happen before ?

You are losing tracking. Try resetting the guardian/home environment data.

Thanks for the response! Could you elaborate on how to reset that data ? Thanks !

Put on your headset and go to settings => guardian => and then reset guardian and clear boundary data

Next step is to try a powered usb hub (or powered usb-c port) for the tracking cable. I have issues with my rift s disconnecting from my laptop so now I have it run to my thunderbolt 3 port that is powered and we will see if it helps.

I've had this problem a couple of times before. Somehow the rift suddenly stops tracking sideways movement and only tracks rotation.

Unplugging and re-plugging the Rift's USB fixes it, but that means quitting the game. A pain when you are flying a long single player mission...

My Rift S worked flawlessly for 6 months, but lately it has become a real pain, with random crashes, static noise, and general connection issues. I've manage to improve things by doing all these things, although it's not 100% stable:

  • Connected the Rift S to a powered USB 3 hub
  • Installed a PCI USB 3 card for the HOTAS and pedals
  • Updated BIOS and USB drivers
  • Disabled Rift audio and mic on Window's device manager. I use Bluetooth headphones for the sound now.

I hope some of those might help!

The problem with Oculus is the last few updates all of their focus is on Quest 2.

Rift is not getting any improvements in software. Granted it is a more mature product, but by all accounts it appears Oculus will be phasing the Rift line out.

Who knows they might surprise me but so far I have seen nothing to indicate otherwise.

After their move to force Facebook accounts I am glad I left them for the Reverb G2.

I was always a big fan of Oculus though and held in there as long as I could.

I still have my Rift S and the original Quest. Not sure if/when I might ever use them again.

You are absolutely right. The Rift is a dying platform. When my first Rift S broke the customer service was fantastic and they ended up sending me a replacement set once they saw it was clearly faulty.

But since last January, when my new problems started, the response times are dreadful, and all you get is the usual list of basic checkups.  You can clearly see their goal is to grow the Quest platform, not PC VR

I'm also keeping an eye on the Reverb G2 as my next headset.
