Suggested improvements to Viewer.exe

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

The Viewer is an extremely useful tool, and I think it could be greatly improved with a few tiny changes:

a. Add a "Load custom background image" menu option (instead of having to replace Splash.jpg and restarting).

b. Add a "Save image" menu option (png, jpg, bmp etc).

Thanks! ?

There are several planes that do not have all the parts visible, for example Ju-88, Pe-2, (probably because textures are from separate source) so I see the use case would be somewhat limited. But yes; it would nice, however very easy workaround is to take a screenshot with PrintScreen and paste it to photoeditor. Just like the background; it takes 2 sec's to restart the viewer, so I could easily live without those in the future too. But nice features nevertheless, cannot deny that.

More important IMO would be possibility to set the camera from the side/top/from axis without perspective (ie. orthographic). You could create great reference photos with it for website/where ever.

But even more important is to get Tanks into viewer also.

Agreed on the perspective distortion Hanu, I actually removed the same point from my original post because it was pointed out to me that using the "Zoom in/out" toolbar options allows you to somewhat correct for perspective distortion in the Viewer. However, it would be much more convenient if instead of the camera moving closer/further from the plane when using the mouse wheel, the camera instead stayed at a fixed, reasonable distance from the plane so that perspective is perfect, and instead zoom in using the same method as the in-game zoom (telescopic/binocular).

This is all available in the dev viewer. Sorry guys. I planned a special viewer for the GUI that would replace the current viewer, but delays with other features have also delayed this.
