[80 years ago today] "• The first fighter design from the Mikoyan-Gurevich design bureau is declared operational with the Soviet Air Forces (VVS). The MiG-1 will be rapidly replaced with the MiG-3 but handling and stability flaws with both aircraft will result in a People's Tribunal declaring the Soviet Air Forces negligent during the design/development process. Several engineers will be demoted and Major General A. I. Filin will be summarily executed.
