Any idea what would cause this?

Going to verify files but have been getting a few crash to desktops with no error and today this while playing back a recording. The game kept playing as I could hear the sound but would not give me the screen back and remained minimized. 

Not sure whats going on but I noticed other games crashing to desktop once and while too, but this error here is new and I did a google search and could not find anything on it. 

Might just redo the system, maybe test the hard drive?

Do you have any mods installed? The latest patch introduced new explosion effects, so any mods changing files for that might now have changed and been non-functional.

I believe that effect file is one of the ones that got updated in the last patch.

You can also go to the Finding the Cause of a Random Crash thread and follow the instructions to get a crash dump for any crashes that happen. Post it in that thread, and maybe in this one, and the devs can analyze the crash and help figure what is wrong. But check the mod thing first.

Thanks for the reply. I ran a Steam file integrity check and it said it was missing 5 files and redownloaded them. 

I know the last update said something about small explosions being redone and that looks like what was missing here. 

Hopefully the problem has been solved.
