jollyjack Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 (edited) Of course a dumb Q, but why are these tanks sometimes so doggone slow LoL? 15kmh even cutting through a field. I've been setting up stuff with t34 and Kv1s tanks; they seem reasonable faster, unless going up hill. Also with a user mission the Time Scale doesn't work, unless you have eliminated a lot of Linked Entry targets. Must be probably due a lot of programmed stuff, pity as at times you want to speed up Aunt Betsy a little going uphill. PS just tried a user mission with German PzVd; boy they seem to belly up easily, like a stranded whale when bumping into hidden objects. Edited February 20, 2021 by jollyjack
BlitzPig_EL Posted February 23, 2021 Posted February 23, 2021 I do find the disparity between their "on road" (even if it's a dirt road) speed, and their "cross country" speed to be a little hard to believe. And even if you are on road, if your track barely gets off to the side, your speed drops precipitously. Very odd. 1
ShampooX Posted February 23, 2021 Posted February 23, 2021 (edited) most tank Wiki pages will list the road speed and the cross country speed, we should investigate that. The one thing I like and that I think reflects a certain aspect of realism - especially in the Eastern Front AO, is that in order to quickly cover such vast expanses, one must use roads wherever the situation requires...even if it means taking a less than direct route to the objective, as long as it's fast and efficient. When I see the footage of German tank/troop convoys on the vast Russian plains, going down a dusty dirt road (vs taking the cross country route), I feel my immersion increase significantly. I can tell you the same was true for movement in Iraq - even though the place is essentially flat, we took roads wherever possible. I know my Panther can get up to 50KM/h on the road and about 30KM/h off-road. I'll do some research and report back how real this is in the game - Panther in game speed looks legit https://tanks-encyclopedia.com/ww2/germany/panzer-v_panther.php Edited February 23, 2021 by 11thPanzer_Pete 1
ShampooX Posted February 25, 2021 Posted February 25, 2021 (edited) OK good news, I looked at the T34 speeds in game and they check out with the wiki specifications both on road and off 50km/h on road app 28-30 off. And in an additional bit of research, because I like you guys, i checked gun depressions on T34 vs. PZKW's. We all know the T34 has a horrible depression at 5 degrees (as with most Soviet tanks). I checked this and it looked about right but was able to verify it against a PZKW4 and happy to say the depression on the 4G was much lower....about twice as much lower as it should be (8 degree depression) I don't play T34 much (at all) and I have to say that commanders hatch blocking out 2/3 of the forward FOV is a very real (and realistic) pain in the ass. LOL. It's like fighting a one armed man, just circle left! I feel that as far a cross country drop in speed, about a 40% reduction is to be expected and whether this is one track off road or both is pretty accurate. I believe in the master settings there is a switch that allows you to adjust the bumpiness of the terrain. I have mine set to max because of the immersion, but possibly if you set it to the minimum setting you'll get a smother, faster off road ride. I'd have to test it out though. ShampooX Posted February 25, 2021 Posted February 25, 2021 Thank Blitz, what about armor/ballistics? How do they work in the game? For example recently I was in an Elephant and got one shotted, through my frontal plates, by a Sherman from at least 1200M away. It was actually on the move so I'm thinking some incredible AI shooting - but what is more curious is how it got through the frontal armor of an Elephant at that distance on the very first shot. seems fishy.
BlitzPig_EL Posted February 25, 2021 Posted February 25, 2021 I'm not really well versed on the Ferdinand, is the "gun house" armor as heavy as the hull armor? Seeing as it's a modification on the early Porsche Tiger hull, I'm guessing it isn't, especially as it is a tank destroyer, not a "battle tank". The AI can do some amazing shooting, as we know. ? That said, I one shotted a buddy in his Panther at over 1000 with my Sherman, but he made the mistake of turning left to reposition, thus exposing his side. He was rather surprised, and so was I.
