hollidark Posted February 16, 2021 Posted February 16, 2021 Evening. First post after playing IL2 for about 20 years so greetings. I've been trying to make a mission but I'm having "visibility" issues. This is not really meant to be a playable mission as much as it is a test site(don't ask). I leave the entire map (tried them all) unpopulated with one player aircraft. Where it gets weird is the static objects. Say I have an airfield and I want to put say, 300 railcars on it, or trucks, or whatever block, in the editor it's all fine and dandy, but in game it's no bueno. I can't see all the objects at one time. Seems like the last several dozen copies are always visible but the rest I have to be literally 50 feet away and looking at some weird angle for them to show up. Almost exactly like view-clipping in a 3d program. No matter what I can't see all of them at the same time. Anyone ran into this? Running IL2 GB on 3950x, 64gb ram, 3090 incase any of that matters. Thank you.
DD_Friar Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 (edited) If you are adding items you need to make them "linked objects" for them to appear on the map. Sorry just re-read your post - my answer is probably not relevant. Edited February 19, 2021 by DD_Friar
Gambit21 Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 It has to do with the LOD's of certain blocks in the editor - they will appear/disappear at relatively close distances.
IckyATLAS Posted February 25, 2021 Posted February 25, 2021 Gambit is right, but to me as you describe it this seems weird. Just to be clear you mention 50 feet which is 15 meters. Now you would like to be nearer than that that is less than 50 feet. In Il2 you have meters if you use the ruler, so maybe it is 50 meters you are mentioning. In any case LOD issues happen at bigger distances in terms of kilometer not 50 meter or at least I never experience it. If you have all these object like railcars put on an airfield (use blocks) this means that the global useful area is of about 800 meters max 1000 meter of diameter. If you look from above you should not have problems. Test first with only blocks (ex. static railcars or vehicles that do not need to be linked) then check with vehicles and trains that have to be linked, so that you can see what kind of difference you have. To me there should not be any but who knows, we learn every day something from this editor. There is also another issue related to the distance between objects. How near are these objects one to another. Finally check your game display parameters, like distance visibility, antialising etc. You seem to be one of the lucky fews that have an Nvidia 3090 so I suppose you play in 4K at full max visual quality parameters, which means you have the optimal image quality. To be sure we do not misunderstand your issue please join a few pictures so that we can help you better. Besides clipping I did not experience LOD issues at such distances with any object, but again they could be special cases as I have used many of the objects but not all of them. I had a LOD issue with ships and planes but again we talk many kilometers and not the type of distances you are dealing with, and these issues have been nearly entirely solved with the latest updates.
