Montoro Posted February 15, 2021 Posted February 15, 2021 (edited) Hi all I am writing this post after spending the whole weekend trying to setup my VPC Alpha Mouse Wheel as IL2 Throttle. After a lot of research I have come to the conclusion that there is some issue regarding Virpil Virtual Axes when used in IL2. Here is the story: 1. This is the mouse wheel I want to configure: Virpil Constellation Alpha Mouse Wheel: https://imgur.com/k7RM3ky 2. Reading VIRPIL documentation, I use VPC Configuration Tool to check that buttons 23 and 24 are set as Encoder Scroll. This is ok: https://imgur.com/DRqI5Sb https://imgur.com/S5a9OFZ https://imgur.com/xeIgwQk 3. Now I create a virtual axis for the mouse wheel. I will be using rZ (I have tried with other free axis slots with the same result): https://imgur.com/EsEK6AR 4. The virtual axis setup is perfect according to VIRPIL documentation: https://imgur.com/X87ixX7 5. At this point the Virtual Axis is perfectly configured and working: It is responding 100% OK in VPC Configuration Tool and also in WINDOWS Properties: https://imgur.com/5CvHwPE 6. Now lets map the new Virtual Axis in IL2. I go to data/input/current.actions and set it: https://imgur.com/1dV0QPO If you ask why I am doing this this way, it is because in order the Mouse Wheel Virtual Axis to work properly, buttons 23 and 24 cannot be disabled in VPC Conf Tool, so If i use IL2 Interface, the software detects Mouse 23 and 24 first instead of Axis 7. Ok, Axis is perfectly configured in IL2, I can even calibrate the curves from inside IL2 and it aparently works perfectly! https://imgur.com/cO03gPM https://imgur.com/k0mlM5W 8. However, as soon as I start a mission, When I try to use the throttle, It becomes Crazy, It start moving up and down randomly when I use the mouse wheel: https://imgur.com/bTzqBFC I have doublechecked that the "excess" buttons 23 and 24 are not maped to any other actions. I thought the problem whas due to the mouse wheel, but I have tried to create other virtual axis with other buttons in the Joy with the same result. In those other configurations, I can disable the butons used in virtual axis from VPC Configuration tool and the problem persist. I also tried to use the mouse wheel virtual axis with stabilizer (not throttle) with the same result. Any ideas? Thank in advance! Edited February 15, 2021 by Montoro typo
Montoro Posted February 15, 2021 Author Posted February 15, 2021 (edited) Ok, Found the solution. I just assigned virtual axis buttons to a "SHIFT" group, so the joy does not send button inputs. Then, it is bad idea to test a JOy throttle axis with auto-engine management settings  (I left the sim to my child, enabled that setting and forgot to turn it off!)
