Controls not working in VR - Kind of!

So, I've got a Reverb G2 and finally got it working in game. My problem is this. After mapping my controls in settings, they do not work when I'm sitting in the cockpit. Some work, like axis for ailerons, throttle, mixture, prop pitch, etc., but axis for radiator, even though the axis is detected properly when binding it it settings, do not work. External views, etc. the same thing. I map it to the buttons I want to use, but then after I save the config, and am back in he cockpit, it fails to switch to external view.

I gotta say, the IL-2 controls mapping is a cluster. Worst game ever when trying to set things up. There are view modes that will cause failure of things in other modes and at the end of the day, the end user is left spending hours trying to figure out what the heck is going on.

Now, this session, when I launched the game, I was in some weird view mode where VR would work and buttons would work, but if I moved my head forward, the screen would creep the plane forward. That is not VR AT ALL. So I pressed F9 to change view modes. To what I have no idea. VR works now, as it should but most of my button presses do not. I don't get it. In fact, now when I press F9, nothing happens.

Anyone have any pointers here? An end user should not have to spend an entire day to map typical controls in a flight sim to get things to work. I scoured the forums and did not see anything related to this problem.

Okay, not sure how I did it or what I did, but all buttons are working now with the exception of External views. Am I trapped in the cockpit because I am in VR mode?

You are if flying in Expert Mode. Normal or any Custom, you are not.

But yeah I do agree with your earlier comment on the control setup system in IL-2. I absolutely adore the game, but despise the controller setup.

Hi there, So while having a really good setup with a 70" a foot away in 4 k and a Throttle qudrant all mapped up for VR , I just got a G2 few days ago to give it a try.

How did you setup your G2 to work with IL2? I am at the point where I got WMR working and Steam VR... DO I need to use any of the controllers for anything ?

2- How do you zoom in the sim while in VR?

I will eventually install the VRNecksaver from Obiwan.

Hope it will help as well. Doing the exorcist to check your 6 is really taxing :hunter:

thank you for your input :help:

1: You will need Windows Mixed Reality for Steam VR ( get it in the Steam store), and Steam VR. I myself prefer the beta of both of those.

When you power on your headset, WMR will open automatically. I just close that, then launch WMR for Steam VR and it will launch along with Steam VR.

Then just launch the game from your desktop shortcut.

2: You can bind zoom and vr-recenter ( default view) in the game settings, believe it is under pilot head control, maybe under camera can't remember which.

There are 5 levels of zoom available in there, so you can bind one or all any any number to HOTAS buttons.
