Hi again all.
With help from here, I am now purchasing all my other titles direct instead of through steam, like I initially did with Stalingrad and works well, including playing direct off the IL*2 launcher instead of through steam.
So a big thanks to all who talked me through it.

Now I have been having an ongoing challenge with my oculus rift sound. And no matter what I try, it works for varying amounts of time and drops out mid flight, or between flights, if it doesn't just fail on startup.

I have adjusted settings in just about way conceivable way known to me, including selecting either of the oculus headsets listed in sound settings. Alt-Tabbing out of the game and fiddling in sound settings quite often brings the sound back for a while, with failure again in an unknow irregular time frame. This does not appear to happen in any other VR applications.

Has anyone got any idea on setting it up as a reliable sound output, as it gets really frustrating and obviously ruins the moment in mid battle.

Cheers in advance.

I'm afraid I can't help a lot but I would suggest a troubleshooting step, try using an alternate sound source (such as your headphones or speakers) and also without VR at all to help determine more precisely where the problem lies. If it's only when using the Oculus you could try contacting their tech support, they're usually pretty good.

Good luck.

Try setting the sound for whichever Oculus device you have as the Default sound in Windows and see if that helps.

I've had this problem (sound stoping mind-game) and some more (Rift freezing and crashing), and I've tried it all, from full Oculus re-instals, tobuying powered USB hubs and PCI-E USB cards.

In my case the solution has been to completely disable the Rift audio devices (on windows's device manager) and using bluetooth headphones. For some reason it's a lot more stable.

When it works it's amazing, but I can't really enjoy long games as I'm in constant fear of the Oculus crashing on me. I'm shellshocked...
