Post 1:

I am reinstalling the game from scratch and after downloading for two days, I have the following showing on my Il-2 start window:

"Downloading game client (476.29 GB/119.61 GB) 11.11 Mb/s"

My game folder shows 2.21 GB size on disk.

I own all of the flight modules minus Flying Circus and since the game client is still downloading, I'm unable to fly.  So here I am with close to 500 GBs downloaded.

2 questions

1.  What total amount of game client data should I expect to download before the game is ready?

2.  Where does all of the data I have downloaded go? (approx. 500 GBs downloaded - game folder a just over 2 GB in size)

thank you

Thanks for the reply, I am looking at my Il-2 Sturmovik Great Battles game folder and it reads 2.21 GB.  I stopped the downloading when the game client download reached 540 GBs.

Reboot the computer, re-launched the game, and been down loading "game client" which is now at 104 GBs.  Is this a reload or addition to the 540 GB.  If continued, then the game client has downloaded almost 650 GBs which goes not look right.  I cannot find where the down loaded files are going, but Il-2 start window continues to download.

Update, the download continued to approx. 176 GBs before I stopped it again.  Restarted the computer and tried once more and download client size went above 50 GBs before I stopped it.

Brand new computer, new drive, etc.

thanks for any assistance

SOLVED!

I had to go into Windows Defender firewall settings and found the following:

"incoming connections: Block all connections to apps that are not on the list of allowed apps"

By default, it appears microsoft will not allow any non-microsoft programs to have access to the internet.

I needed to go into "Control Panel - System and Security - Windows Firewall" On the left side of the screen is the link "Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall." click on the link which takes you another window.  Lower right side there is a button "Allow another app..."  Clicked on it with another window appeared. In this window, click on "Browse," file explorer opens.  I went to and clicked on "launcher.exe" in the "bin - game" folder, which places it in the "File name block"  Once there, click on the "Open" button which closes that window and returns you to the add app window.  The Launcher.exe appears in app window.  Next I clicked on the "add" button at the bottom of the window.  Launcher is now allowed to download and install the game.

I figure I go step by step because as microsoft seems to make things more difficult and the process of getting this to work applies to all programs.  Hope this helps others.

I hope you place your game outside of the "Program files" folder so you don´t get update issues that the win protection will cause!

I have a completely separate hard drive for games and game related files (mods for example.)  I would appreciate if microsoft address this issue of windows blocking you from performing actions and not having a window pop up saying "hey, we have this blocked.  Do you want to unblock it?"
