Change in Damage Systems

Recommended Posts

Im a newer, last april, user of Rise of Flight. It had issues, random damage happening. One flight 50 rounds from my spandau could take a handley page engine out at .5km.   Other times, 500 rounds could barely make the engine smoke.

Over on the Rise of Flight forums the general impression has been that in Flying Circus, the machine guns hit like the Breda 12.7 does in BOS..  And that the balloon guns make a spad into a P51D.

Playing with the FC game,  im seeing far far differently.

fighting with the U2VS,  the balloon guns do NOTHING better. Seriously, 200 rounds and all i can do is stitch the fueselage and make debris fly off.

Standard machine guns, 600 rounds and got engine smoking.

ROF MP has gunnery server-settings that changes/influences trajectory  & can make a big difference between those.
The while gunnery in CF is different from ROF.
You might try out quick combat on both with FC's "aiming assist" & ROF's "aiming help" for reference.

I have the aim assist on, the stupid little red cross that appears on screen at a certain target distance, usually about .5km  and the target planes all have a tiny red circle on the left engine.

Only do single player, not sure when ill be better enough at my flying to even try the online campaigns.

Right now my combat luck is taking out C47a's

Deflection shooting depends beside angle, distance, perspective etc also on ammo and speeds.
Why also the difference between FC and BOX.
Aim assist will give you the general idea where to direct your fire like tracers also do.
But in the end it is what you hit that does the job, which depends on the DM.

Supposedly the more time you'll put into this the better you'll get.

You might also consider enlisting in a squad/jasta/escadrille to speed up the learning curve;

This is because the people that are complaining are getting shot down by folks who spend a ridiculous amount of time practicing gunnery offline. Many times it would make no difference whether they were attacked with balloon guns or .303- they were flying straight and level and would have died immediately no matter what was being fired.

It's also coming from folks who fly planes that can get shot with a ridiculous amount of rounds (literally 1,000) which, for some reason, is based on the size of a wing spar.

When fighting the AI, his flying is dictated by his damage. The more you shoot him up, the less he will make movements with any sort of G's which means it takes more rounds to make him fall apart.

It is much more efficient to aim and kill the pilot.

thats why im trying to learn my air gunnery all over again. The guns in BOX dont seem to hit that well beyond the what the slider is set for.  Going from being able to have a spad set converged for 150 and being able to snipe engines at 5-600 and being forced to pray for a hit at what im converged at is a bit of hindrance for now.

But the aiming is different here, on RoF once that little red circle appeared on the enemy bomber engine, thats the ONLY place my bullets seemed to go if i was shooting from beyond my 150 convergence range.

After i made this post i took a flight of bf109 versus the c47a.  Somehow 30 rounds from the 20mm only blows the RUDDER off of it.  And accidentally ramming into its tail, and EXPLODING in a fire ball as big as the c47 had no impact on it..

Hear, hear, this is "the" B&Z spad-ace speaking and what you hear is not the callous on his tongue but on the heel of his joystick hand )))
S! Talbie

PS Sorry Talbie, now I mix you up with Larner, so probably made him verry happy )))

Lucky I can put that on my RAM that ran out of warranty exchange lately ...

Perhaps if i can manage to get the third C47 downed in the duel mode. Dont know how the "stupid magoo" AI gets smarter with each consecutive plane that spawns. But it does.

Ammo has a big impact all right. really big impact.  20mm is better then everything else, the P=39's M4 is not that great past 100m and sprays randomly. BUT when it does HIT well large chunks come out.

I think that might be the irritating thing about BOX versus Rise of Flight,  Seen videos online of you guys blowing the whole tail end off a bomber with a 3 second burst of 20mm, but a 3 second burst of 30mm merely sprays debris off it.

As far as FC is concerned one disposes, I believe, beside Vickers, Lewis and Spandau MG ammo only of Vickers balloon guns 11,43mm or indeed the Becker gun 20mm ...
