343KKT_Kintaro Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 Sooner or later datagloves may be available at an affordable cost... if so, then clickable cockpits with datagloves are the future of combat flight sims: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJwFG0EoS7E At the moment, DCS is VR-compatible AND with clickable dashboards... at least with a mouse. If Eagle Dynamix keeps developing his DCS game, maybe in a close future all DCS players will need their keyboards only to launche the game, but not for playing it. Once in the simulation, a player equipped with a headset and two datagloves could fly his aircraft entirely in VR: visually as we know it (with a VR headset) and "tactily" (with datagloves) : no need to use the keyboard, nor the mouse, the entire process of fliying a virtual aircraft woulbe executed IN the simulation, IN the VR environment. Is the above possible for Cliffs of Dover? At the moment, Cliffs of Dover is not yet VR-compatible, but the game presents clickable cockpits... so when it will be VR-compatible, maybe the devs will make it is "datagloves-compatible" too. Obviously, HaptX is not releasing for sale a DCS-compatible nor CoD-compatible dataglove... I know. Just wondering about the potential futures... At the moment, the Great Battles modules do not have clickable cockpits, so this gloves feature is excluded for Great Battles, unless the affected developers develop clickable cockpits for the Great Battles series.

Absolutely not, I didn't even think of it that way. Please stay on topic, this is the "general discussion" section and I'm simply suggesting we discuss one specific matter.
FTC_ChilliBalls Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 The Oculus hand tracking feature seems promising in this regard too, though Facebook seems to not care about their Rift S customer base and only put it into the hands of Quest users. 1

Thus... no datagloves are necessary when flying one virtual aircraft at 100% in the VR environment. In the future (a close future), this technology should be applied to clickable cockpits so that we say "bye bye" to our keyboards and mice, at least when flying virtual aircraft.
